I bought a vz-52, now what?

Thanks for all of the tips and comments in this thread.
It looks like I can handload with .303 and x39mm die sets if the above youtube video is to be trusted. Looks like I would just need 220 swift brass.
So, i'll keep an eye out at the gun show for 7.62 dodo rounds and swift brass.
I wouldn't mind if I can make it for a reasonable price, but paying $2.50/rnd + brokerage fees + exchange is just beyond what I would be willing to do.

Ghetto bayou????

It looks like they cut a piece of metal to make it pointy, and then attached it with a door hinge. Exaggeration of course...

They do indeed strip very easily...at least my 52/57 did. 60 seconds.

The only thing more difficult than the SKS is installing the recoil spring. Meanwhile, you don't have the tricky take down latches, and the barrel separates from the stock with an easy to push button. A lot easier to strip, and less parts.

Anyone know where to get stripper clips, or any that might work? I have tried x39mm, x25mm, 8mm Mauser, and 5.56mm slips without luck. I thought I read somewhere that some more common type work. Swedish mauser?

I completely understand the fascination though, as I feel exactly the same about my AG42b. I often sit watching TV while stripping the rifle down and putting it back together (being careful not to get bitten of course) I haven't even shot the damn thing yet.

oh yes! :) Completely agree.

This is often the most satisfying thing about having these. (and not getting bit by the AG42b ;) )

Took a while...

Found some ammo at the gun show from a couple of vendors. Total haul was 118 rounds and 18 stripper clips for $170. Sure isn't cheap!
Took her to the range yesterday; not bad:

Top target is 23 rounds, about 4" group (ignoring a flier)
Lower target was a much slower pace, 5 rounds, 2" group.
Both were at 50m, so 4-8 moa. I'm sure i could tighten that up with a scope. I'm quite happy for iron sights.
The sks manual I have says that an acceptable grouping is less than 15cm (about 6") at 100m. Mosin sniper manual says 8cm (about 3") for the sniper, and 15cm for the standard mosin.

One case cracked:

The cases fly everywhere. Some hit my chest, some 5' to the left, some 3' to the front. Reloading will be a nightmare. Anyone ever spray paint their cases bright colours?

Still considering the x39 adapter...

I bought the chamber sleeve. Scrubbed everything down with acetone and then scrubbed it down again. I followed installation instructions and cleaned excess loctite. It worked great for me and so far for its new owner as well. Loctite softens with heat so care should be taken to pace yourself a bit and u should have no problems while shooting cheap ammo.
