not a good day today, i was resizing some 308 federal brass, not a bad start with the new die set, then i decided to try some Russian 7.62. from what i read, i am able to use the 308 dies because they are simply the same, just the 7.62 has a little thicker brass and it seems civilians can buy a die set designated to 7.62....well, lets just say i need a new decapping pin now. My wife wasn't sympathetic one bit, and i was a little bummed out after the fact, so lesson learned: don't try resizing 7.62 again. But i am a little curios how some of you nuts do it, what makes it a little easer.

correction, the brass is not 7.62 Russian, it is 7.62x51, sorry for the mass confusion

Russian is 7.62x39 ... the NATO .308 is 7.62x51

Thanks for making me laugh today lol

7.62 Russian is 7.62x54

7.62 Soviet is 7.62x39

(At least that's my understanding)

7.62 is not the same diameter as .308 ... you cant run 7.62x51 in .308 ... its .311 or .312. You will run into pressure issues

I believe you're incorrect on more than one point there.

its been awhile ... i may HAVE been confused ... regardless .... .308 is 7.82 in diameter. They are not the same

I couldnt remeber which was not interchangeable ... your not supposed to run .308 on 7.62. chamber. You can run 7.62 in .308. chamber

My numbers may have been off ... but the comment was that " they are the same " and they are not

Do you mean Russian (Barnal, MFS) MADE 308/7.62X51?
If that's the case, they are Berdan primed and steel case, and a good way to ruin your die as you discovered.
You better do some reading before going any further with your reloading process.

.308 is 7.82mm

someone better call the reloading manual publishers.

they've had it wrong for all these years.
