I didn't come from a hunting family. I got into hunting because when I worked for the MNR some of the biologists there talked about it a lot and there was another girl there that was really into bear hunting. My mom and dad have never been on a hunt but they have enjoyed meat I bring them and My first deer was shot (with a crossbow) on their property and they liked being there when I brought it up to the house to hang. This fall I was back in Canada for a moose hunt (no luck) and after we spent thanksgiving at the cottage. My husbands family cottage is in WMU 46 near parry sound. I decided to go look for grouse and asked if my mom and dad wanted to walk in the woods with me. My dad was a bit nervous about going into the woods during hunting season so even though there was no one around and it wasn't required, I put on my orange hat. While out my mom was talking a lot so I knew I wouldn't see anything so it just became a nice walk in the woods. We had a great time, it was fun to take them with me.

here I am ready to go:

That's great, thank you for helping to break down the terrible stereotypes that the media has built around us hunters.
Non-hunters have no idea just how much enjoyment hunting truly is, to them it's a dangerous "blood sport" and the woods are filled with nuts with guns.
I hope your family will spread the word that hunting is one of the safest healthiest, and most enjoyable activities out there.

Hunting skipped my folks generation too, they have no interest but they are starting to learn to keep an eye out for their dear little boy after many years of training.
Keep at it, soon your Dad will be asking to pack that nice shotty for you.
