I call it art. SKS builds +I am Bubba, fear me.+

haha ya you got me
I've spent the last 2 days figuring out how I am going to re-engineer the SKS trigger group. Almost got it figured out on paper but to progress on the SKS/XM8 hybrid from what I see it will all start with the trigger group or it won't look right at all.
So the following will be done to an SKS-D trigger group as permanent modification
-remove trigger guard
- tig weld on tabs for installing new trigger 2.5" further forward on the trigger group.
-shorten factory trigger and drill a hole crosswise for mounting a linkage bar and pin that will connect to the new trigger.
-tig weld tabs for relocating safety and converting to an AR15 ambi safety. (detent will figure out later. Factory safety will remain but will have the lever cut off and the factory safety left in the fire position as it is being deleted.
-extend magazine lever
--remove spring lock post from rear receiver leg
-fabricate new grip and trigger housing from composite material around the modified SKS trigger pack.

So that's step one....... LOL
dark side indeed
need to decide if I will use a vertical bolt for the rear of the trigger to replace the spring lock or if I will devise a horizontal rear take down pin and detent for the rear of the trigger assembly.....

I'd love to be customizing M14's and Stag10's but in these uncertain times ..... the sks will have to do

Remember, factory safety has to be on safe to remove the fcg.
Best to just delete it since you're planning to fabricate a new locking mechanism anyway

The factory safety will no longer exist in my plans. Instead I plan to utilize an AR15 ambi safety that will be positioned above the trigger linkage blocking it from above
The trigger group will no longer lock in with the spring lock..... that is being deleted altogether and there will be a take down pin or bolted connection in its place.
In fact, I'm cutting the trigger group right behind the trigger itself and that whole flat section behind the trigger, as well as the trigger guard will be removed.
Only thing holding up the show is the tig welder is 5 hrs away and with the forest fires a few km away I can't leave to go pick it up
I have most of this build figured out on paper so once I get rolling I'll start a thread and document as I go
