the windage knob doesnt turn. i took my M14 out to the range and got the rear sights set up distance wise, but all my shots are to the right a bit. i was thinking it might be solved by adjusting the windage to compensate. the knob is tight and wont turn though. what am i missing and would this fix my accurracy?

For your initial zero, adjust the front sight post first....apply windage on the rear to compensate for the conditions of the day. Unscrew the flat screw on the windage side and unscrew the drum. Now take the aperature and pull it up and forward so the metal screen which holds the sight in place pops out...now remove all parts, clean and ensure cosmoline is gone...lightly oil and reassemble...

I had one that was full of goo and would not function...

A little trick is to scribe the start point with a pencil so we you drift it right off the other side:rolleyes: ....at least you can remember where your last adjustment was.....;)

This is also happening to my rear sight. Reason: threads on elevation pinion (where windage knob screws on) are partially stripped.
If anyone has a M14 or M1 garand USGI elevation pinion, i'll buy it.
thx !

So i ordered an unissued Garand elevation pininon (from eBay) and matched it up with an HRA-W windage knob... hoping they will fit with the norc base, aperture and cover.

Although these two knobs fit well in the Norinco base when inserted independantly... when you put the three parts together, the thing jams up solid !
To my surprise, i found out my problem was coming from the Norc base which was poorly manufactured
You won't believe it : the threading on the right side of the base (where you srew the windage knob) is NOT ALIGNED horizontally with the hole on the left side (where the pinion is inserted).... this results in binding of the base with the pinion's teeths when I try to adjust windage

So now, i need a new rear sight base... damn it ... maybe i'll just order a complete garand rear sight from Numrich.

I was having problems also with the rear sights on my M-305:mad: Solved the problem by ordering a Garand rear sight from Marstar...works great:D
