Well, last night I was looking at a friends M&P 9 and I fumbled the slide as I was taking it off and it fell and hit the corner of his METAL cleaning table. Whoops! Well let me tell you....I put a huge scratch on the side of the slide. Here is my question.

I feel so bad I would like to replace the slide for him, where can I find 1? I put up a WTB add on the EE

The scratch does not look like it is through the blueing if it is blueing. Can I just buy some gun blue and touch it up?

Also, I found a company in the states that does slide serrations and refinishes slides. How complicated is it to ship a slide to the states?

Thanks for any and all help

Ouch. I think it would be easier to buy a new gun and trade it for his than to buy just a slide. As an alternative, perhaps you could get it armacoated for him, in the finish of his choice? Contact Murdoc on this forum for cost and details.

Not what I was hoping to hear lol

What about a blueing touch up? I saw gun blue at Can tire for about 10 bucks

Is it scratched or scuffed? They are finishedwith a scratch resistant coating. If you're not talking about a 3D gouge, you can likely buff it out.

I almost did that dissasembling my Glock at the range one day. Luckily it just hit the bench and didn't fall off, but it was close.

I'd talk to Arma-Coat and see if he can do something for you. He can sandblast and refinish the slide in almost any colour you want.

It might be easier/cheaper/better to instead buy him a nice holster, spare magazines, or something else useful...

Personally, if a friend accidentally put a scratch on one of my gun, I'd be a little disappointed... but wouldn't lose any sleep over it. (And certainly wouldn't want to replace/re finish it)

Accident happen.

What does your buddy who owns the gun want you to do? It doesn't really matter what you want to do but rather what he wants done.

Graydog

That logic wouldn't work for me. Even if the guy laughed it off and emphatically said he wants no renumeration I would feel compelled to make some sort of gesture.

Conversely if he expected a whole new gun I wouldn't really care as my own conscience would tell me that's not reasonable.

IIRC, the slide is black finished stainless; if so, touchup blue isn't going to work. I'm surprised it scratched. Pretty darn hard.

Ya I am surprised too. He said it wasn't a big deal and did laugh it off. I will try to get a picture of it. I am not at his house anymore. It was like it scuffed the finish on it. he took a black sharpie marker and said "fixed it!" At first I thought it was paint off his table but it didn't clean off with rem cleaner. ( all he had ) We laughed about the marker but it did kinda hide it lol

He was telling me he wants to armor coat it olive drab so maybe I will offer to pitch in a few bucks towards that.

Anybody ever shipped a slide to the USA? I can find anything that tells me I cant. But also never heard of anybody doing that. I emailed ATEi to see if I could but never heard back

Just go with arma coating it. Reasonably priced and very durable. That could be your best option for him, or like sillymike suggested- buy him a couple of mags or something.

Not to derail here but what kind of holster is that? Its niceee and im in the market.

I would pitch in for a arma-coat job. Ur buddy sounds like a decent guy. If one of my good friends did that to my M&P I would so the same thing.

You may get more suggestions as to "where" if you filled in your location. That said, if you're in the GTA contact Casey at TacOrd (www.tacord.com) for some re-finishing suggestions and pricing.

I find it hard to believe you scratched the Melonite finish on an M&P. The finish is as close to bullet proof as you'll find, in fact, if the metal isn't gouged, I'd bet there's no damage. I've had mine for a few years now, and after 20,000+ rounds, there's only one tiny spot where the finish is worn on the rails - this after thousands of presentations from a kydex holster, being dropped, rolled on, fired from barricade positions, taken apart and put back together. Try using break free on a rough cloth, it takes most scratches off.

I will try that. I have a slide that was media blasted and I want it back to black so I am going to send both out and have them done. The addition of his to my order will be minimal.

i vote for, buy him a new one & you keep the old one , since you now know how it works. the story might just fly @ home & you can always use another one .

Buy him a new gun and buy his old one and turn around and sell it on the EE. It will probably cost the same as trying to buy a new slide. Then when you do get his old slide, what do you do with it? Sell it on the EE as a slide alone? I wouldn't want him to be pissed at me all the time if even though he doesn't show it. Especially if he's a really good friend.

Guns are tools and folks shouldn't get really bent out of shape at some wear and tear marks. As long as it still shoots OK and he's OK with it, buy him a Timmies or whatever turns his crank.
Now, scratches on a shiny new truck........................
