I love my savage 110 in .30-.06 she has taken many a deer from 50 to 425yards. In the long run get WHATEVER you want! get what's fun and exciting for you. anything larger than .243 and larger is legal for use in alberta and it's beleive that any caliber .243 and up will work just fine so long as you get your target practice in and know how to shoot. so have fun and you had better post pics!

270, 280, or 30-06.

The 280 might be the best choice in that case capacity.

Good luck!

Well I'm in the market for a new rifle, going to be used mainly for hunting deer in mostly open country,
270Win or 25/06. Both would be excellent for deer, but the 270 might give an edge with heavier bullets for moose.

Also, the 270 would be easier to get ammo for if you're not a handloader.
