Got a reply from the PM's office. Apparently, it's being "turned over to Minister McKay". Maybe if more people write to the PM or McKay, we can get this turned around.
 
A Canadian issued BHP is the only 9mm I would ever own. Letters put into the red box 10 minutes ago. Cross your fingers and send letters.

Just FYI for all concerned... I finally received an answer on this issue from MoD MacKay... pretty loosey-goosey on any actual plans to release some of these to the public.
But then, I suppose even a half-assed admission that they might at least CONSIDER allowing us to re-purchase our own property back from them IS a small step forward.

In Saturday's " Ottawa Sun" I see the CF are set to upgrade their issue
sidearm, and retire their venerable Canadian-made Inglis pistols.

The galling thing about this article is that these old pistols are to be smelted down, instead of being sold to law-abiding Canadians.

They are semiautomatic pistols, pointe finale, and would be perfectly legal for ANY Canadian to own, if he or she so desire.

Sir, these heirlooms could be sold to the public and the proceeds turned back into the CRF, thus helping with the deficit. And no, I am not being facetious...every bit counts, doesn't it?

The main point of this communiqué, however, is this wanton and totally unjustified destruction of Canadian history without any regard for the rights and opinions of your voting public.

I suggest that you do the right thing, Sir, and set in motion an Order in Council to allow the eventual sale of this surplus material to the Canadian public.

My father carried one during the Second World War. I carried one as an Infantry Officer some 20 years ago.

What in God's name has changed in this country since then. It is disgraceful.

During my pistol training, the sergeant told us that they issued these pistols to us, officers, to shoot ourselves with if the enemy ever broke through our lines. And then he added that even at this range, he was not sure we would succeed! :D

il Take 4 if they change there mind preferably the one i take care of at work cause there MINT! Brand new Almost fresh from the box still with the new car smell (and a bit of CLP smell) with very few military ex. in em and even less ammo put through em... ( note to self... go to the Qm and steal a few before the go.)

So to all those who think there badly worn... yes some are and some will even fall apart in your hand but look at the right place and theres a S#$t tone of new or lightly used one laying around in alot of regiments or in storage
 
I carried a Canadian-built HP every time I was in Northern Ireland, and depended on it for my life every day I was there. It was my service pistol for almost my entire 33 years in uniform, and I even had my own personally paid-for example.

One I had to hand back in when my time was up back in 2000, and the other one was taken from me by a 'grateful' gubmint after a maniac killed a bunch of kids in 1996.

If I lived full-time in Canada, I'd buy every one I could lay my hands on.

Being this pistol is a 'controlled good' you'd have to use the arguement that it's Demilitarize Code (DMC) should be changed to an 'A' or a 'Q' under the Canadian Governement Catalog System ... just to give you guys a hint on how to argue this ....

The only way to Demilitarize this pistol for civilian sale is through the smelter....unless the DMC gets changed....
 
Very nice letter indeed! I'm not sure the government will do something about it, but I sure hope so... At least it the news made it to the paper! Here in Quebec the medias wont even talk about it...

yes most of those left in war stock are nearly new

the one I own still has most fo the sticker on it :D

I would buy a few out of war stock sight un-seen given the opertunity :D

Sounds simple enough but we are talking about a Liberal government. Is this even possible?
