I can't f@*&ing believe this!!!

Im fairly sure they would be set to be destroyed long before harpers admin. Most police dpts either arent allowed, or wont sell or trade old gear. Maybe this article will change some minds. Im not even a hi power fan, but melting 7 million dollars worth of gear is hurting.

What's really amazing is that there's a newspaper article about it and the idea of selling them to citizens is "acceptable" to the writer and editor.

This is an important point that shouldn't go unnoticed.

Imagine, a newpaper, main stream media, is suggesting putting all these handguns into the safes of crazed private gunowners. And in the name of not wasting money?

Would this article have even seen print two years ago?

Where are all the anti's screaming "melt them and use them for propeller bolts on windmills".

Shameful they are being destroyed, but I think this article is meaningful in other ways as well.

so the gov is taking old hand guns, paying to have them destroyed, and we all know some wont make it to the melter and will end up in a private collection, and then buying the soldiers new side arms to replace them with? so they bought them originally, then are paying to destroy them, then buying new ones. and we wonder why our country is in a recession?

Could we organize a list of willing purchasers?
Heck at $400.00 for a piece of history like that, I would want one.

I :puke: in my mouth a little bit when I read that today:(. Then my poor wife had to listen to my half hour rant! Would I pay $400 cdn for one....you betcha! Sh1t....I'd buy two for that:eek: Can we not organize this somehow through gunnutz to petition the government before they turn this history into useless ingots:confused:

They would not make much money selling them.First they would have to set up the National firearms sales office and staff it with 3 managers and who knows how many staff and then spend millions on advertising. The paper work would probbably be astounding also.

How about they sell them to people who would like one, instead of melting them down,
I thought the government, wanted every body to recycle and save the enviroment by reuseing, stuff instead.
Selling them would save, the cost of energy required to melt them down, adding up to even more savings, And people could have a piece of history.

you have to remember all the fns, smgs, etc that were melted down WITHOUT public notce whatsoever- the government at that time was pretty experieced at concealing things- and it was LIBERAL- look at the fuss that was made when gun dealers tried to import similar modells from overseas with LEGAL MODIFICATIONS and the libs declared them PROHIBITED anyway- they just plain DON'T WANT YOU TO HAVE AN "ARMY" GUN-

Don't think so, they'd just go to public works to be sold and be posted in lots on the PWGSC website. Same as the 5.56 brass they recently posted.

And there would be some good business to be had selling pinned mags or pinning the 13-round originals. Hopefully all the spare parts could be included in the sell-off as I imagine these BHPs are well used.

I would pay whatever it took to prevent them from being destroyed. I can't believe some idiot in charge is will to smelt down a piece of Canadian history. It makes me physically ill.

I'm really happy this article got printed, and that the slant was not against us. The fact of the matter is that the existence of such an article is a leap forward for us, and will help legitimate our concerns more so in the non-firearms greater public. Despite the subject being so terribly objectionable, the reporting and position is in our favour.

And yes, if they were for sale to the public, I'd buy one too. :(

There is a very similar article in french on the website of LCN (the all news network of the TVA network in Quebec)... TVA is the property of Quebecor who also owns Sun News I believe... I just love Sun News! Maybe Ezra Levant will have something to say on the issue!
