I can't shoot DA's! (XD40)

Did you check that chart at targetshooting.ca?

I've had that chart, and other similar targets in my range bag for a while. I think I'm just going to have to ditch the Weaver-style in order to support both sides of the pistol better.

Back to basics and the isoceles is probably a good idea. If you could afford to have a pro give a lesson you'd be off to the races. If you're near Calgary I bet TSE could point you in the right direction (pun intended)

Well it's either that, or I have to switch completely to 1911's - and ditch the tupperware.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, Fellas.:)

There's a way to shoot every gun accurately as evidenced by the many law enforcement agencies who use DA's, wide bodies etc. I'm not that great a shot but I have a S&W 686 revolver as well as my Kimber .45 single stack 1911. I just have a heck of a lot of fun with both and now I'm looking at a Sig 226 to add to the mix. Variety is etc. etc.

Well fellow Nutz, I have an embarrassing confession:

I can't shoot DA's (or "safe-actions") to save my life. I'm consistently shooting 2-3" left (good groups, though.) I have no problems shooting my 1911's, but am consistently shooting to a 9:00 POI with my DA's (XD40, SiG.) I'm guessing that it's the trigger pull. Maybe.

I shoot using a modified Weaver, but would consider changing to an isosceles if required.

I am calling upon the collective knowledge to "fix" me.

Also, I dry-fire a fair bit already.

Sell your pistol and buy a shotgun.

By the way look at the quote from your first post that I cut & pasted here. One of my instructers noted that if a shooter is consistantly grouping shots in one area from 15 to 25 yards and not all over the map, the individual has already proven to be a good shot and just needs to make an adjustment to be excellent.

I shoot my 1911's fairly well - just need to get my tupperware working.

Real simple, adjust the sights and if you shoot good scores the problem is solved. Doesn't matter how you do it as long as you do!

Thing being, if I want to borrow one of my buddies Glocks, or go have an impromptu shoot with them - I'd look like an ass. Or I suppose I could aim to the right a bit, but I already golf like that and it's not a habit I'd like to carry over.

I'd much rather solve the "problem" by working on the fundamentals.

It took me some time to warm up to the XD trigger. Give it a couple of thousand rounds, or if you don't want to wait, have some work done to the trigger.

It's got the same type of pull as a Glock. A 1911 is SA, the XD is not.

I used to own a XD 40 and it IS listed as a single action pistol. Like "Im LUger said, the striker is 100% pre-cocked. I also own a glock, which is classified as DA. The XD trigger is much lighter than that of the glock, but it has a lot of travel/long reset compared to any other single action pistols. It's a shame that the glock, unlike other DA pistols, does not afford you the ability to quickly take a second shot if the primer fails to fire after the initial strike.
Oh well, that's why I picked up a sig226.

I forgot to reply before, but looks like I got another chance 4 months later lol

Yes, just because XD is hammerless and has "same type of pull as a Glock" doesn't make it DA. There's nothing double about the XD's action hance the grip safety... ;)
