I could not find an all matching German WWII K98k---for years.

They also saw use in Portuguese service, although it was mostly the earlier shipments that did so. I have seen at least 4 specimens with the flat buttplate that saw MUCH service, still completely matching .

I like my Portuguese K98. I traded it off in 1992 or 93 and I thought it went to Montreal. It came back to our gun show in Riverview the next year. It was purchased by a local Dr. when the show opened the first morning. In 2006 or 07, I got a call from a gunsmith and he said a customer had a Mauser for sale. I called the gentleman and asked him for a description, and price. I thought it may have been a Portuguese K98, because of the date and crest. I searched through my records for the serial number of the one I had traded off. I was curious to see if it was in a Portuguese and the serial number block. When I saw the top wood with the dark strip through it I didn't have to look at the serial number it was my K98. The only flaw on the gun is the dark stain on the edge of the butt plate.

I remember saying how you found that one again Al! That is a great story, and gives me hope I may one day find again a few treasures I foolishly parted with in my youth :)

This one is a keeper, and I don't even put it on the rack.
There is one around here locally but he won't part with it. I tried to get it for a friend of mine and the guy offered him $850 for it and it was well used. I traded my used Portuguese 41 for a New in the box Remington 700 SS 5R 308. I didn't like to let it go but I didn't get any reasonable offers on it when I put it up on the EE Forum so I took the 5R deal. I haven't even sighted it in yet, waiting for my Bausch & Lomb 4000 to be repaired.

Wow, that is the ultimate collection to me. German WW2 militaria is my favorite. Someday I hope to amass a collection such as yours. Absolutely gorgeous!
