I dropped my prized Sako Safari A IV off with my trusted stock maker in Taylor B.C. I selected a AAA exhibition piece of Turkish walnut in feather crotch (sorry no pics at this time) and selected all the necessary accesories, Neidner skeleton grip cap, Pacmayer presentation pad, ebony forend tip, 22 lpi checkering in multipoint, wrap around. Not too fancy but elegant with the checkering. Internal crossbolts, no ugly metal circles showing on my AAA stock.
This will be a perfect match of outstanding wood filled with outstanding steel workmanship, the ultimate medium bore rifle IMHO. For those who don't know this rifle, it is in .375 H&H, the "TRUE KING" of the medium bores.




 
Who in Taylor does stock work, considering I lived within 10 minutes of there for 10 years I was suprised to hear someone there does that!

Can't wait to see it!

I was specifically told not to advertise his name on this forum, sorry. His work is among the best I've seen and I've seen work by Hagn, Biesen and own a stock by Pete Grisel and this guys work rates right up there with these guys. He has a way with wood I only wish I had, I can make a stock, but he makes a piece of art!!
 
Then don't advertise it!! Still can't wait to see it though.

I'll call a few people I know and find out anyway, lol. A good friend and absolute gun and hunting nut buddy of mine lives in Taylor, and has a beautiful log cabin overlooking the whole valley, he will know :p
 
Sweet looking rig. I would love to do that to my German KAR98A that has been attack by bubba. Trying to find an aftermarket stock for it is proving futile.
 
What kind of swivel are you planning on using? What style will the stock be? What about cheek piece? Will the pad be black? I will keep an eye on this thread.
 
1899, the swivels will be the same detatchable, the pad will be black and the cheek piece will be identicle to the original with shadow line. This stock fits me so well all the dimensions will be as per factory. This gentleman has a pantograph and will duplicate the dimensions perfectly including cast off.
 
NM999, I bought this rifle magnaported, but have had many done as well. I have been impressed with the results and the unobtrusive appearance. I don't believe it really reduces recoil, but it definately reduces muzzle jump and thereby reduces perceived recoil. This in turn reduces recovery time and the time for a second aimed shot. It is very beneficial in my opinion and not fugly like a brake.
 
Only for the innocent bystander, Looky. I haven't noticed any increase as the shooter, but then I always use hearing protection at the range and I NEVER hear or feel the rifle go off when shooting at game. I believe it certainly widens the noise affected zone, laterally, but I don't think it increases the noise significantly.
 
The reason I ask is my one hunting buddy was looking at a rifle in 308win with the multi ported barrel.
No way to shut the holes up short of shortening the barrel.
I have a Jennings built on dad's 308 Norma Mag and David ports his holes forward.
Less side blast.
Sure made a difference for me shooting that s'perienced gal.
If not for the screwy thing on the end, she would be left home.
It would be interesting to compare two of these screw on brakes.
One of the Jennings fashion and another with the 90* ports to see
how much different they are in noise.
 
Nothing crowns a magnificent firearm like gorgeous wood. I will very much look forward to admiring the photos of the finished product.
