Please help before I get sent to jail :D

I understand for duck Im allowed to hunt in Units 60A and 61 to 95 from Sept. 25 to Jan 9th

http://www.ec.gc.ca/rcom-mbhr/default.asp?lang=en&n=99FDEC59-1#_docOpen

Now I live in these units I dont think Im allowed to go to the pond across the street and start shooting the duck that land there. I mean whats the rule about where Im allowed to shoot.

Thank you guys.

You guys must be thinking " How the hell did he pass his possesion test"

OK you guys can give me #### all day about what I dont know but at the end I still wont know. SO why not just say somehting like you have to be >500m from a house or something.

I also dont know what CORE is.

CORE is for the guys out west. You need to search for your municipality's firearm discharge bylaws. Try google, or go into their office and talk to them. There was talk of a law being passed re distance from dwellings, schools, churches, etc but I have no idea if it ever passed. Don't be stupid and start shooting 100m from your neighbor's house. If it is public land, MAKE SURE you are legally allowed to hunt there (via MNR, or the land manager).

I know I wont thats how I got to this question. But I mean If I go a little up north and theres a pond, road 100m away house 500m away. Am I allowed to shoot there?

I tried searching but I cant find it nowhere.

Dont let the comments persuade you from doing something , i just got my hunting license and im still trying to figure out this WMU crap .

The way i see it is there are no stupid questions everyone has to start somewhere.

Yea I know what you mean your right but for a question like this either try to help with an answer or shut up.

WMUs are just sections of ontario devided into units each has its own rules but many are similar. If you get the 2010 hunting reulations summary magazine it gives you a map of ontario with the WMUs.

Most land within 150 km of TO is private - so you need permission. Additionally, some municipalities have discharge regs that limit firearm use. If you go far enough north, there are large tracts of crown land where anyone can hunt.

The best thing is to hook up with other hunters to show you the ropes. Now to find hunters. Put an add in your local paper, or try Kijiji. If there is a local fish, and game club JOIN IT.

When in doubt call the MNR
1(800) 667-1940
You pay good money for your licence and tags etc, make them do some work
At the very least they can tell you what provincial regs are, as for local discharge reg/by-laws, try your city or town website, or call them up.
Better to ask a question and be thought a fool, than ask none and remove all doubt

Yea its hard to find a hunting buddy because my dad wont let me go with just anyone.

My dad has some customers he said theyre really good people so he asked them if I could join in.

Im new in hunting and Im excited to go hunt something.

I think calling the MNR is the best choice and asking them.

IMO your Dad's a smart man. I was lucky that my friend ( who got me into hunting last year) has been hunting most of his life, and has been showing me the ropes. Also, there's lots of information on the gov't, OFAH and other organizations websites.
One important thing I learned is that when someone is taking a new hunter out, they want to make sure that you know that safety is #1. Even though we've known each other for several years, we still "announce" when we've loaded our guns and when we've emptied them.

Good luck & have fun !

For Ontario, contact the municipality and ask about hunting/discharge of firearms bi-laws for the area you want to hunt. They can also tell you if a certain pond is on public or private land. If the pond is on private land, they can tell you who owns it, and you can go ask for permision.

I know it seems like a lot to take in, I am fortunate enough to live in a gun friendly town where I can blast away at ducks within city limits :)

Even throw an add on here looking for people to hunt with in your area...hell if you are up for the drive, come out to Trenton and I will take you out duck hunting.

"...Am I allowed to shoot there?..." Not without written permission from the land owner and knowing for sure if there are any local firearm discharge by-laws. By-laws can usually be found on the municipality's web site or a business hours phone call to the municipality's office.
Tiny Marsh(near Barrie) may be a place to look into. http://www.tinymarsh.on.ca/index.htm

Yea he grew up in Iraq so you can guess how many people die of accidents there, so he wont trust just anyone with a gun and his son lol.

Ill probobly go hunting deer with them, learn stuff from experience and kill them with questions lol.

BRN017, finding buddies to hunt with & collecting the gear, not to mention permission to hunt on someone's land or even buying your own... Are ALL life-long events!

Take the time to read the regs, slowly build your skill set, gear & access priviledges... ENJOY your time afield, I don't know of another thing in life I appreciate more than the outdoors!

And, good on your dad for being careful about who you hunt with. Be careful & be persistent, hunting is like any other skill, it takes time!

Cheers
Jay
