I EFFED up my Grizzly Mag...

Hey guys. I got my new grizzly mag...whoop whoop! Went to put on my Fab Defense foreend. Turns out it was super tight...which I knew, but I thought I could tap it in. Well I got it JAMMED on there, eventually I got it out (don't even ask how, you will cringe) but I went to see if my foreend tube (the tube with the action bars, I do not know the official name) was still good.

So I put it in the gun with the bolt, and now it is jammed in, I think one of the bars was bent up and now I can't get the tube and bolt out of the gun...and it bars are quite tight, or the tube is tight on the receiver tube but I can't even get the bolt out of the gun...

HELP!!! Did I eff it over for good? Everything slid in fine but then I tried to get it out and TWK
 
I am thinking of maybe cutting the bars and somehow get them out and get a whole new Rem 870 Forend action tube...they are like 40 bucks on Brownells and hopefully I can find one in Canada? I dunno, the tube I kinda messed up already
 
What are the shell latches? I have had the bolt and action stuff in and out many times and nothing like this has happened, I think the bars are bent vertically so it is not riding in its groove
 
Haha no worries, I am just not sure what is binding. I should get some pictures, I have a feeling a new action tube may be the best way to go, messed up threads and bent bars...well...just not the best
 
OK, I'm familiar with the Remington, but not the Grizzly.

The shell latches are about 5" long and staked into both sides of the receiver. In order to remove the bolt you must press each latch into the receiver prior to removing the bolt. To assemble, they pressed into the walls of the receiver also. But if they are not pressed into the walls then the action bars can get on the wrong side of the latch or latches.
 
Hmm...never noticed anything like that before. I honestly think it is the bent bars messing things up. I can't seem to get them out. If it is the latch thing and they did bind what is the solution?
 
Just slightly move the latches inward to clear the action bars, you may need to alternate them. If you push the carrier upwards you can see the latches.

If the trigger group is removed then you can see a lot, ...but the latches may become unstaked.
 
It will be much easier to see and work...but the latches will no longer be supported and may lose it's staking.

If I were doing it, I would remove the trigger group then reinstall the two pins, put tape on the ends to keep them falling out.
 
Hmm...i am semi understanding. What happens if the things become unstaked? Is that really bad?

Also...with bent action bars...thats not good. Can I bend them back do you think? Or should I look into getting a new forend action tube?
 
If they come unstaked it's just a pain to assemble, but function is fine.

I've straightened bent action bars numerous times, it just depends on how bad they are tweaked. I wouldn't order a new tube until this one is out and the problem diagnosed.
 
Theres no latches on a Griz Mag. It sounds like your bolt carrier jumped and is not sitting in the proper spot on the action bars, or pulling forward is making the locking lug lock the bolt in the chamber.
 
Yeah I was wondering what these latches are. And without the barrel in I can move my bolt carrier thing in and out of my action bars. But I think the bent bar has grooves where the bolt is supposed to go which are catching, I may have to take pictures.
 
Wowie...a flashlight helps alot. I took out the trigger assembly and then i could see what the problem was. The one bar was bent so the little grooves weren't engaging with the bolt carrier. So after MUCH wear and tear I managed to get it to a place where I could get both bars to line back up and slip into the bolt carrier plate thing and then I managed to get everything unjammed up.

Note to self: Do not put a bent forend action tube with the bolt into a gun, it does not end well. Now hopefully I can bend everything back together and reassembly my gun
 
I think I may have got the bars back into working mode. With the trigger group in I would reef back on it and then it would jump off the rails because of the little bar that holds it shut when there is a shell (the thingamabob that keeps you from opening it while firing ya know) but now that I realize that I held the action release (that sounds like more of a better name) thing I can rack it back and forth and it is not bad, stays in place now. A little rough tho...I guess I will grease the rails and hope that adds some smoothness haha
