It was raining. Couldnt get the kids to rake the lawn. Went to Tim's and got my coffee. Came back home and opened the gun safe. Then the "stupid idea fairy" hit me.

Took out my Marlin 444S, splashed gun blue remover on it, and did a plum brown finish on it. Its soaking in oil right now. More info tomorrow.

WHY? Cause its raining and im bored. And the "stupid idea fairy" pays me a visit about 8 times per day. Some days more.

I did discover that James is real good with a torch tho.......
 
A Bud did a "Plum Brown" finnish on an old and tired 92 Winnie....
Sure looked nice after about fifteen oil & rub downs with 0000 in between :cool:

I've seen a few guns with a Plum finish that looked really nice. Especially with brass accents.

Didnt turn out as bad as I expected. Some brassy looking area but they actually kinda look ok. Now I will put it on the EE.

Not hard to use at all. I have used it on guns as well as other steel products.

That looks quite nice! I like to color next to the stock...is this the .444 you have used for awhile now? Man, I am very tempted to buy it...:rolleyes:

I had a 444S a few years back and sold it...have kicked myself ever since.

Aint it the truth......Im sure others have done a better job than I did but it looks better thn the bluing that was on it. I followed the directions and that is how the rifle turned out. Not perfect, just different. Looks like an old timer now.

I wonder how cleaning fluids affect the finish? Doesnt really say on the instructions.....
