forgot to mention all #'s Matching chrome barrel and bolt/carrier and a mint dark brown arctic birch stock which i was very surprised with the quality. This post is kicking a dead horse i know, but i had too.

ohh ya thats my 10/22 compact in the fir st pic, has been really effective for grouse and rabbit up north, LOP is obvisouly short but really accurate when you get used to it wrong thread i know but was in the same room couldnt resist. rabbit 75 yards no prob w/ irons.

Congrats. Nice gun and as of now very inexpensive to shoot with surplus ammo. Learn how to clean it properly and always do it very thoroughly including the gas tube etc and it will last you for years.

Most a fairly accurate and loads of fun.

That's a horrible SKS! Send it to me for proper disposal! just kiddin' :D

She is a blast to shoot (same boat as you). My sight tool just came in, so I can't wait to dial her in and then start learning how to use her properly.

Thanks guys she really is nicer then i thought it was gunna be. Took me close to an hour and a half to get all the cosmoline off and clean everything nicely. Brake cleaner WD40 and half a roll of shop towels did the job pretty good.

Hi, I am also looking for Russian made NEW SKS but on Liver arms they are "factory re-arsenaled conditioned".

Nice rifle! I'll admit, I've had a hate on for SKS rifles for a long time. But they are starting to really grow on me. And the pictures of your new one are making it very hard to dislike them. Looks great man!

That's probably the nicest looking hardwood sks stock I've ever seen. Nice score IF IT SHOOTS :)

Yeah the stock was nice looking as it was but the handguard was laminant and i broke it also the cosmoline ruined the feel of the wood. No matter what i did it always seemed to have that tacky/greasy feel so I stripped it down and refinished it, its alot lighter in colour but doesn't scratch and is silky smooth now:) Get em while you can guys and lots of ammo!

I also saw them at Lever Arms yesterday.
Ones for $199 and Tula for $275. Both nice.
Is it worth the extra $76 to buy a Tula and why?
Aftermarket stocks ((ATI Tapco) worth it or cheaps the SKS out?

If you're about 5'4"-5'5" the original stock will be just fine. If you're any bigger, you'll at least need a buttpad or just go with an adjustable stock. Being on the lower end of the "average" size scale (5'9"), Tapco's adjustability and the forward grip made it a lot more comfortable to shoot than the original stock. Eventually gonna get around to picking one up for myself, but first wanna go through with the XCR mag mod. Haven't seen an ATI stock in person but one guy at the range has and he bought a Tapco because it was less rickety.

A great start.
Have fun with it.
Don't let corrosive vs non-corrosive panic you, just learn to clean it after each session.

I was talking to the guys at westrifle.com today, they said they will have some un-issued SKS in about 3 weeks, from 200 and up. They also have a ton of Mosin Nagants, bent and straight bolt from $150 and up.
