I finally got my Walther P1 and my long term ATT. I got it from Trade-ex and it comes with both a holster and a spare mag.

Now, I just need to find some ammo for some range fun...

I got three war time P.38 (cyq/cyq/bfy) and one P1 (1957, Berlin Police, refurbished). The un-matched numbers byf (Mauser) is the most accurate and the one one that cost me the less. All four love the same recipe: 4.4 gr of 700x, COAL=1.100", 115gr FMJ. Clock at 1140 fps (a little below ordnance value, but easier on the oldies and better grouping). Be aware that the aluminum frame of the P1 are known to crack in the long run, so refrain from P+ ammo on these ones.

What a very , very fine sidearm! First 9mm DA, 1935 design. Love the "chamber loaded" indicator. A natural pointer. Not as ###y, nor as accurate as a P/08 .30 Luger, but more reliable and tough.

On surplus ones (vs arsenal refurbished), check that your de-cocking lever is operating correctly. If not, the part to change is cheap (8$). Buy it from Tradex! however, as the ones provided by your seller are not machined correctly.

With the SIG P226, this is the simplest pistol to tear down and re-assemble that I've come across. In fact there is one part less (the springs stay with the frame on the P.38). Learn it till you can do it in obscurity. Gefreiter.

After seeing "Inglorious Basterds" tonight I want to get a P-38 now.... :p

I found some primers at a store in Cranbrook, and I think I can get some powder too, but I just need a die set and some bullets.

I'll keep you posted. By the way, the gun is very nice looking, and the bore is absolutely pristine. From what I have read so far and what Gefreiter has said, don't try to use hot loads since they may overtax the aluminum frame. I figured out how to strip the gun, and most of the weight is in the slide and barrel. The frame feels like it is nothing in terms of weight.

You are not mistaking. I have a collection of four. Would not have bought the modern 1957 version (called a P-1, with aluminium frame) had I known how better the real ones feel. And you know what? The best shooter of the four is an un-matched s/n byf (Mauser) and the one I paid the less (400$). In my opinion, just as good as my P226 Sig, and 65 years older! + stories to tell.

So easy to disassemble and clean. A joy in the fist! Go find a nice one NAA!

(You need to learn to call them by their real name: P.38, not P-38) If your interested in one with a story to tell, here is the description from the seller I got it from. I confirm all that is written here. This is my second nicest one. Drop me a PM for pictures:

A German WW2 P.38 auto pistol stamped with manufacturer's code cyq (Spreewerk) with serial number 4600m. Features include caliber 9mm Luger, 127mm barrel, brown plastic grips and 8 round magazine. Frame is marked on the left side with acceptance stamp E/88, slide on the right side is stamped with E/88 and German Army eagle proofs. Serial number matching on the slide, barrel and frame, barrel shows cyq and German Army waffenampt proofs, magazine is stamped P.38. Conditon is excellent, blue rates 90% grip strap and trigger guard is worn to a grey patina, holster wear showing on the sharp edges and at the muzzle and a blood spot on the left side of the slide, bright bore with sharp rifling showing a hint of frosting. A restricted class firearm.
Would be nice to find a vet bring back P-38 with some providence..... ;)
