I fired my SKS at the edge the other day. Sitting down in a chair, back staight, I made 5" grouping from 50 yards out. I don't know if thats good or anything but it worst than the UZI 9mm and similar to the M4. My shots had like 2 second pauses becaue of recoil. It seems to shoot nice. Now I just need a 75 round drum and turn it up to 900 rpm.:) But yeah, I guess it did what it was supposed to do.

Seems pretty good to me. At the recent CGM Manitoba shoot, I hit 8 out of 10 on a standard sheet of paper at 100 yards sitting at a bench (no rest). Some will say the SKS gets 2" groups at 100, most will say it's MObarn door. :D

As long as you're having fun right.

And what did the paper look like on your first try with an Uzi?

Keep practicing with her and you will get the feeling for how these funny Carbines where set up.:D

Just for giggles...
I just read on another board about a 1000 meter shoot in BC where a guy with an SKS cranked up his flip-up rear site to 1000 meters and shot over the target, so he adjusted it down a touch and it began hitting the target... in the end I'm told he got an 8' group. :D

IMHO not a bad days work for a non-match semi auto carbine, using an intermediary cartridge, and Iron sights. :D

5" at 50 yards with an M4? I don't think so...

Im from Cagary, M4 was first time ever shooting it and I think sights were set too high. SKS can't shoot 8" @ 1000m. What a chump. Ill test it anyways.
I like SKS though. Then again i'd prob like a 88mm or a Steyr .50 cal better lol:)

No offence, but 5" at 50 yards is pretty horrible :D You should be able to make 5" groups offhand standing at 100 yards with any SKS, even with crappy surplus ammo. Try squeezing the trigger and aiming each shot ;) I know it's fun to rattle off 5 shots as fast as you can, I do it myself sometimes, but you can't expect accuracy under those conditions, especially with such a rattling, clattering contraption as an SKS :p

A lot of people say that the OEM stock exacerbates the inaccuracy of most SKS's, due to sloppy inletting. You may benefit from an aftermarket stock, particularly if you fit it to your reciever properly. Just something to think about ;)

Read the post again,.... it says 8' as in foot not 8" as in inch

Imaginary Uzi 9mm.. but hell who knows.. I see the odd prohib now and again at my range.. some AKs, Krinks and a fellow with a C1A1. Yes I have played with the Uzi as well.

dumbasses... he said he was shooting at the "edge" which means TSE, they have rental guns which include uzi's and even a thompson.

Shooting seated...

Say, were you using the Traditional Hillbilly National stance, sitting in a rocking chair with Gran'ma at your side, jug of HoneyDew and occasional dog the other?
Mind you, that stance is very difficult to master due to the exact timing required when recovering from recoil with the chair coming back.
Fah've inch' at 50 yards ain't bad at all, mah boy... :p
PP.

I figure if I have a rest I could easily get 5'' @ 100 yrds. Let alone a bipod and scope and 75 round drum...

I'm pretty sure you'll learn fast to get grapefruit-size groupings at 100 yrds with that SKS of yours, Gunnoob.
It's just a matter of getting past the fast firing buzz and learn that rifle's trigger, exercise good breathing and muscle control and learn to focus on your front post at the last moment just before releasing the shot.
BTW, when you take more than 10 seconds sighting, you should close your eyes and do the sighting again. The shot should happen within that time frame because sighting acuity rapidly decreases past 15 seconds.
Good shooting!
PP.:)

that I did not know, thanks perverted 'ol man;)

Don't worry about them gunnob, I've learned to shoot when I was 6, am now 30, and still am pretty happy when I get them all in about 6-12 inches at 50M, and all on paper at 100M with irons. The only time that it got any significantly better is when I was shooting 2-300 rounds a month, which the budget dictated had to stop.

Optics are another story though, aiming through glass is SO much easier (and the groups shrink accordingly), it takes out a lot of the guess work about getting the elevation and windage right by wiggling my head around just to get a proper sight picture.

Don't worry..I will. Should have seen how proficient I was with my old pellet gun.

BTW...My friends were too scared to come near me or even touch the SKS...Too big too loud too powerful. They were hiding behine their car in the middle of nowhere. Then they thought the R-Comps were coming...LOL. Man 7.62 can go through alot of hardwood tree.....Fresh cow skull...both sides...fun fun. I will admit, I got scared for a sec when I shot it with no ear plugs on, I started thinking of what the gun is really meant for.

It sure is a scary gun! It's mostly scary when you #### the charging handle and the damned thing slamfires and kills your thumb...
