BYF on the receiver is a marking for Mauser Oberndorf (factory) where it was made. You have a model Karabiner 98 Kurz or K98 rifle. One of the most successful bolt action designs ever. It came into service in the 1930's. This was the battle rifle for the German Wermacht. These were used in a support role for squad machine gunners and as snipers. The Germans number marked almost everything with the full serial number or the last 2 digits of that serial. If the barrel is uncut, this is excellent, even better if it has not been drilled and tapped. If there is a "X" on the receiver, that means it was a Russian Captured Mauser. Don't be alarmed if nothing matches. If most of it does, then that is a bonus. Pics will help determine more of course. Great find BTW, enjoy!

no X that i saw but i will doube check tonight, and it has not been tampered with in any way other than the sporterization of the stock, it has not been drilled or tapped

All depends on the quality, matching numbers. Etc. In 42 only a few parts were nmarked with 2 digits. Trigger, follower, ejector box. I think that's it. Maybe $300 is all right other then sportered.

Also this is not a sale forum. Apply for access to the EE.
