I found the document that records the statement of President Clinton banning the importation of Chinese "guns" and ammunition into the United States. The statement was made on May 26, 1994. It is recorded in a Department of State Dispatch. The "legal authority" of the decision was the Arms Export Control Act of 1976.

I have the document in a .pdf file. If you would like a copy of it, please e-mail me at leeace99@hotmail.com

the result of that ban made chinese guns that was already in the US more expensive and the guns that was destine for the US , some got diverted here to canada cheaper, thats why we got the C$400 norinco M14, thanks clinton.

There's at least 3 separate bans. I believe the Clinton one, an Exeutive Order, expired last year. But there's still a couple others, including one specifically naming Norinco.

CanAm sporting firearms are specifically exempted from US import bans.

This is what I thought, but there are no rifles that I have seen, even sporting ones. It appears to only be shotguns.

Yup, multiple rules and bans all overlapping. They can't import non-sporting firearms at all from anywhere, for the most part. The US gov't works to stop the flow of weapons in, and simultaneously the UN works to stop the flow of weapons out of countries, like they just got Serbia to sign a non-proliferation treaty.

"...the Clinton one, an Exeutive(sic) Order, expired last year..." That was the "Assault Weapons Ban". Had to do with mag capacity, flash hiders and bayonet lugs. Some States put in their own ban. Notably California and Some Eastern States. The No Norinco milsurp copies ban is still in effect.

isnt most stuff from China regarded as a " no import" to the US?
I thought it was a sanction due to China's human rights violations and Communist regime.
All the money made from the sale of Chinese items goes straight to the Government and the people remain in poverty...
Its kind of like saying if you buy a Chinese product you are supporting the Communist bank account.

While clintoon banned military weapons, all thoise thousands of SKS's and noisy maggots were actualy surplus "police guns". At least thats what the chinese called them:rolleyes:
