I gave up on $11+/box .223 prices and got one of these instead.

Howdy. Here's any update for the people who replied to my Mini-14 thread. I was considering trading my Mini-14 for a Mini-30, and to be honest, I would have, but then I started to realize the issues with corrosive ammo and future availability of 7.62 and I figured, **** it, I'll go with a rimfire. I don't hunt anything other then paper *and the re-animated* so why bother?

It's a Remington 597 Heavy Barrel. The scope is a 4x32 Tru-Glo and the Magazines are the clear plastic Remington 30 rounders.

All told, I got this package (gun, scope, 4-30 mags) brand new for $675 which I'm quite happy about.

Now I get to shoot 30 rounds at a time for cheap! I got the 597 because A) Canadian Tire had the 30 round mags for it and didn't have anything for the 10/22 and B) I like the mag release on the 597 way better. Minor issues, I'm sure, but I'm quite confident I would have been happy either way.

Originally, I went to WSS in Calgary here and handled both the heavy barrel 10/22 and 597. WSS wanted $499 IIRC for the 597. Then after the window shopping I went to Pro-Line and they didn't have anything. Last chance was Canadian Tire on Southland Drive before I had to pay the piper and buy my first gun form WWS (their service has been the pits the last 2 years because they are the only "big" game in town and I almost refuse to buy anything there other then a little ammo and some cleaning accessories). Canadian Tire had an original price of $664 for it, or $165 more then WSS. I told the guy about it and he said that he matches prices, so a phone call later and they beat it by $4!:D

Anyway's....

Nice gun, I bet you spent more on gas than the $4 you saved....
The money that gets spent, but not accounted for. LOL

It's always good to get a deal, but if you're like me and have to drive an hour or more to any gun store, you saved nothing. It's cheaper for me to have it shipped via mail and especially if I make a deal here at the EE. Beats having to pay GST/PST also.
So after spending $50+ gas, dealer mark up, GST/PST, I quit buying guns that way.

BTW, nice gun!

How do your 30 rounders work??? I just bought a black one and can't even get it in my TVP:mad::mad:.
Slayer

All 4 that I bought work fine. Well, I shouldn't say that yet. All I did was load them so far, but all 4 took 30 rounds each and fit in the gun.

Good thing all your mags are loaded. You must have alot of varmints in your kitchen.

If you only knew. :D

Damn, sounds like you have a cool canadian tire. Rimfire Rifles & 30rd magazines for them! I'm lucky if mine has any rimfire ammo at all.

I have only 2 of the 30 rounders, one new, one older, and they can give a guy grief. The easiest way to make a new one work(IMHO) if it's snug fitting, is to let the bolt fly forward, THEN insert mag. Otherwise the bolt may not jump forward. Then crack 'er back and let 'er go.

Use a fine sandpaper, and go to town on all contact points, you'll know when you get there. Also, put some lee resizing lubricant on the mag. Rub on a thin coat with your fingers. Works well for 8-10 mag changes.:)

Nice gun. I really like the stock. I was wondering if they would match prices with WSS and now I know :)
I bought my Mark II from southland cdn tire (on sale) for less than what WSS was selling for . The guy that was there was very good to deal with and I didn't have to take a number and wait 20 mins !

Hope you have better luck than I had with mine. we actually tried three of them and they were the least accurate of any rimfire I have shot.

I've had the same problem with my LVT. However it did shoot one lot of Lapua Superclub ammo extremely well. With that one lot of ammo it was outshooting my Ruger 10/22 target. Unfortunately every other ammo, and even a different lot of Lapua was all over the place. It's a very ammo specific barrel. A bit too much so.
