it's something I was going to buy all along, it was too cheap to pass up. a BSA M1917 30.06 Sporter. it was a friends primary hunting rifle, but he just replaced it with a Mossberg LLS in 30.06...he wanted a removable magazine, not the internal like the P17 has. it's rough, needs to be reblued, the wood worked, but it shoots and has taken most of his game.

I'll put up pictures soon. what is the best way to take shots of it? I tried on my bed, but the mattress sags to much, so something was always 'off' in the shot.

bought two boxes of Federal GameShok to try out too. 1x150g and 1x180g. that's in addition to my Mossberg 151K plinker. :)

Nice. That gun should be practical and a lot of fun. Are you still going to get into reloading?
I have the 50th anniversary Lee's reloading kit on a huge 2x8 plank. now that I have the 30.06, I need to go buy some dies. I think I'll get the RCBS being they're so well regarded and compatible with the Lee loader. :)

that's what I keep hearing! how well is it free floated? what do you think of it vs. a Stevens 200 & Savage III?

not sure if it's free floating out of the box but that can be fixed easy enough. Assuming they will shoot half decent and feed well, I think they're closer to the Tikka/Rem 700 than they are to the Stevens 200! I was extremely impressed with the Xl7 to say the least, for $370

Shoot it and hunt with it for a while before paying for a bunch of work. Those P17s are good rifles, but the work may cost more than the gun is worth and if you decide to sell it, you'll lose most of your "investment".

I take pics outside w/o a flash. Overcast days that aren't too dark are best as direct sunlight or flash will cause glare.

bsa30-06 over at HBC will have tons of advice/praise for your new gun there Friendly, he has nothing but good things to say about BSA.

Better hurry and start reloading too, use it to bag a deer this season perhaps? What scope are you going with it?
