Can you guess what it might be?

UPS just advised me a firearm I purchased just arrived at the irunguns facility in Arizona.

Now we play the waiting game - no idea how long it will take to get this side of the border, but will be worth the wait and every penny, I promise :)

Better tell those boys to rush to avoid the June 1st import stamping deadline!!

Boy I hope so! It's on my mind, believe me. Not sure how long IRG usually takes to do their imports (?)

My first time using them, I was in the states for a week and they have the easiest online process to get an export done when you are not home and not near a printer. I did it all on a smartphone!

Don't worry about the import markings. BTW, if the rifle is historical in nature, it is exempt. If the marks devalue the firearm, it is also exempt.

IRG does a run every month, the cutoff is the 15th of every month (?), so yours will come in for the April shipment, you should be getting it early May. It sucks if you just miss the cutoff, because your waiting the longest.

Waiting is the hardest part, but is always well worth it ;)

Awesome.

If anyone wants a little peek-a-boo at the answer, look up gunbroker auction number 626449344.

And before anyone talks about rarity vs. a 28-30, remember this is matching and wearing the original, and well-marked stock. I've literally never seen one of these in Canada, and I've been looking for 15 years (I know of at least 5 28-30's up here, one is on the EE right now!). They are even uber-rare in the USA. This is really top dollar for this gun in US funds too, so I paid well for it.

I have used them on all of my imports. They are very friendly, and I have never had a problem. With import marking looming, they have definitely been busier, and the customer service rep I spoke to attested to that. How it works for IRG is that it has to be in their facility AND paperwork completed including payments by the 15th of that month. Then the gun is sent in the next shipment. Shipments are every months end. They are then sorted in Canada, and generally by the middle of the following month you get your rifle in the mail. My last gun sat for 12 business1 days at their facility before I received my email to pay my duty etc.

So if the rifle is there with enough processing time, right now I would say at least 10-15 business days (which is much longer than normal) you will be fine for the April 15th deadline, shipped to Canada end of april, in your hands by mid May. Again, they are really busy right now, every other time I have used them I get the processing/payment email the same day that the rifle arrives at the FFL.

I called them recently about the import markings and as far as they know they have not received any defined timeline from the government but are still working on the June 1st information. Currently it is my, and their understanding that ALL firearms will be marked. If it is historic, it could be marked under the stock line, but would still be marked. Again, they do not really know much more than we know at this point.

Hope that helps

Not to derail, but do you have a link or anything I could read to verify this? First time I have heard it, and I am sure many would love for this to be true!

Yes, I am glad you asked. :)

Here we go, right from the regs...

___

4 (1) The firearm shall be marked by permanently stamping or engraving on the firearms’s frame or receiver the word “Canada” or the letters “CA” and

(a) in the case of a manufactured firearm, the name of the manufacturer and the firearm’s serial number; and

(b) in the case of an imported firearm, the last two digits of the year of the importation.

(2) The markings shall

(a) be legible;

(b) have a depth of at least 0.076 mm and a height of at least 1.58 mm; and

(c) subject to subsection (3), be visible without the need to disassemble the firearm.

(3) In the case of an imported firearm, the Registrar, on application by the individual, business or public service agency that is importing it, shall grant the applicant an exemption from the requirement set out in paragraph (2)(c) if

(a) marking the firearm in a place that is visible only by disassembling the firearm is consistent with the current practices of the manufacturer of that model of firearm;

(b) the firearm does not provide a visible space suitable to stamp or engrave the markings;

(c) the firearm is rare;

(d) the firearm is of a value that is unusually high for that type of firearm and that value would be significantly reduced if the markings were visible without disassembly; or

(e) the firearm is imported by a business that holds a licence for the purpose of using the firearm in respect of motion picture, television, video or theatrical productions or in publishing activities.

We may not be as screwed as we thought we were.

^ Yeah I've been rushing to get some firearms out of Europe because of the this legislation without ever reading it. Basically anything I'll ever import will be exempt by c AND d.

Just found this out this morning. Glad it's a relatively sane implementation.
