After shooting a buddy's .257 Weatherby, i am impressed. Any .257 Weatherby shooters here?? Seems like a decent coyote, wolf, deer and elk in a pinch caliber.

...............i may be picking one up in Edmonton on Monday if i can find one.

257 weatherby

I am getting one built by Dennis Sorenson, waiting for my Mcmillan Edge stock, it will sport a Gaillard sporter barrel at 25'', Rem 700 L/H action, williams bottom metal and will be blueprinted, the works. I had a 25-06 and was going to get work done one it to get it more accurate but when you can get 300-350fos more out of the 257 weatherby why not there is'nt a flatter shooting rifle to 500 yards and I hunt mulies in the fraser breaks and there is lots of long shots, ca'nt wait till it is done. I will post some loads when I test it.

I'm in the same boat as John.
Have a
-SS 700 action
-26" King barrel
-Brown Precision stock
-Leupold 6x42

I also have ~ 400 257 Wby brass from my previous Weatherchicken:D
I do believe I have the largest supply of 257 Nosler BT's in the north.

One of the best calibers going IMHO.
I also own a 250, 257, and a 25/06. Love em all.
I used tu run 100 grain BT's at ~3650 fps. Deadly on caribou and black bears.

I had one in Vanguard with SS. It was one of the most accurate rifles I ever owned, took a few deer with it, dispatched them very quickly. I regret selling it, seemed like a good idea at the time, but not anymore. If you handload, its a awesome deer round. If you don't handload, then look at the 25-06.

The Vanguards are an excellent rifle, but usually with a average trigger, but its nothing a timneys trigger and 10 minutes can't fix.

I had a similar urge a couple years back Win94 and ended up with a 270 weatherby (custom mauser). Awfull flat shooting and the 257 would be a bit moreso.

As said by others they're a little pricey to shoot. But once your stocked up on brass its not too bad other than about 30% more powder than a guy really needs. But hey, its kind of cool working with a 300 yard zero.

although I doubt you're going the custom route, I will mention it anyway. 6.5 Wby based on the 257/270/7mm Wby case. Kicks the #### out of the 25 cal

I have one. Awesome round. I shot a 1200 pound buffalo with it, no problem. I've shot a barbados ram and two wild boars free hand, lots of thump no recoil. Scratch that itch. I was supposed to shoot the Buff with my 340 but thats another story.....

257 Weatherby is an impressive cartrige,my son and I both have one,100 grain bullets at 3600+ is no problem even with a 24" tube.I also have a 270 Weatherby which is also very impressive.

If you're looking to buy a .257 WBY. There's a used one down at Coutters Gun Shop in Tuguske (?) Sask. that I know he's taking offers on. Give him a call (306) 759-2516. I know it's got the 26 inch barrel on it, which might do you better than the 24 in. one that's on the Vangaurd.

Yeh Cat...the bbl is coming off..but I gotta at least try it first:p
One trip to the range anyway.....just for fun
