The first time this happens, the RCMP should explain politely to the person that called them, that people hunt, if the same person calls again with a similar complaint, they should be charged with mischief, just like people that call in fake 911 calls.

I was down at one of my spots yesterday for one last crack at geese for the season and apparently someone either saw me unloading my truck or sitting along the waterway. I doubt it was an early morning dog walker or jogger. It was sleeting and snowing.

I was hunting in a legal to hunt zone at the water's edge when I noticed two men in dark clothing wave at me from the edge of the bush near the access trail.

Oh.......COs, I thought, what do they want? Turned out to be two RCMP officers. They apologized for disturbing me and said they realized I was in an open hunting area, but said they had a "Man with a gun" report and had to respond.

The looked at my PAL and hunting permits then we had a pleasant chat and they seemed impressed that I'd lugged 12 goose decoys down to the water's edge all the way from the access road. The snow was dotted with coyote tracks so they asked if I had a dog with me. Pretty pleasant encounter actually. My buddy had a similar experience a couple years ago there.

I'm glad it turned out good for you . more than likely you never noticed the squid who saw you while you were unloading .it was most likely someone walking their dog and a Liberal at that .

In my younger years it wasn’t unusual to find a half dozen shotguns and ammo in our high school lockers during hunting season. We had one student playing with a switch blade( smuggled home from Mexico) and along came the vice principal who played with it and then told the student there wasn’t a need for the knife to be here, the student never brought it back

I took my 12ga pump and shell belt to school most days in grade 11 and 12 during goose season and kept it in my locker as did a few guys
I also hunted with my PE teacher and one math teacher at least once a week

Used to take the back roads to the U of M with my 22-250...Would end up with the odd coyote, fox or even a jack rabbit in the back of the pick-up for the day in the Q parking lot...Never any trouble...A simpler more reasonable era for sure.

Yes, migratory birds are a federal issue that’s why it was RCMP.
CO’s do provincials...

ON provincial MNR officers cover both provincial an federal. No different from a regional LEO.

the problem is from the government down to the patrol constables supervisor, the priority is cya and the constable would be crucified if they didn’t go to a “gun” call.

Several of us used to take our 22's to school because we would hunt gophers on our way home after classes.
The rifles stood in a corner of the classroom, and no one thought anything of it. Those were better times for
shooters. In High school, we had a P.E. teacher who was an avid shooter and hunter. He loved to tell stories
about his hunts. Today, students are missing out on some great things. Dave.
