I can't even count the number of times that I have purchased a rifle model that I previously owned and sold... attracted by the same criteria as the first time around... and then sold again for the same reasons the second time... "settling" leads to dissatisfaction (maybe more than once). I should know better now... but, nope.

He will still have all that 7X57 brass... and you know how whiny brass can be... all those high-pitched little voices calling to you from their bin... and you just know it won't stop until they get what the want.

I had two rifles chambered in 7x57, both based on Mauser 98 actions, one small-ring and one large-ring. I you could source a nice Brazilian (Oberndorf) M1908 or a Venezuelan (FN) M1930, with excellent bores, you can build quite a nice rifle from them. I believe Oskar Kob still does colour case hardening as a hobby and takes smaller orders. 
Haven't read the whole thread. I've owned a couple of 21H in 7x57. I like the chambering. Ultimately the 21H's went on their way for several reasons. First, the trigger sucks if you don't use the set trigger first. The scope mounting options and scope height combined with stock design is not satisfying (to me). I really like the rifle with open sights. I don't really like the safety.
Winchester made some Featherweight Super Grade M70s in 7x57 a couple of years ago, and one of those would be nice. Maybe an early '90's Remington Mountain Rifle. A Steyr Mannlicher Luxus Carbine would be very nice too!

Them Featherweights with the french lace doily checkering are ugly. They should ditch the ugly checkering, forget the schnable thingy on the forend, shorten up the forend and add a black forend tip. Maybe then they would look like a proper rifle worthy of a 7x57.

The featherweights I have had were more like 4-6 ounces heavier than the husqvarna 4000/4100s. I liked the much better trigger and safety, longer barrel and better fitting stock (for me) of the model 70s. The 1-12" twist on the husqvarnas was always a bit of a anomality also.

Winchester hasn't changed the stock since my first new .270 Featherweight back in early 1980's. I can live with the checkering pattern, but new liked the schnabel. Kinda makes me want ot "yodel". I rounded off the tip on my 2013 7X57 and will eventually add an ebony forend tip. No reason Winchester couldn't lighten them up a bit also. Has to be a pound heavier than my 700 Mountain rifle.
All the Featherwights I've owned were very accurate, at least 3-shot groups which is all I care about.
