I guess the Ban just killed this sport...

Are there any Service Rifle matches scheduled anywhere this summer?
CQB? DND range availability? CQB could be fired on many civ. ranges, all shooting is well under 100. Anything scheduled?

Valcartier is shut down until Aug 31st. Our president made a request to re-open but it didn’t get approved. So season 2020 is not over but not doing well.

Realistically I don't think the bases will open up the ranges to civilian this year - Force protection. I don't expect SVC/precision/trg rifles or anything that take place on DND properties will happen in 2020 at all. Millions of people from the PR will need to shoot PWT3 ( for the ranges used by the ORA) in the fall and the range bookings will be jam packed even if the base is ok with the associations using the ranges.

If the interlocutory injuction happens I think we may be able to shoot SVC with AR in 2021 season. If the final legal action fails, we can talk about changing SVC in 2022.

I am operating with the assumption that DND ranges open in July. I get the idea of sticking to semis but I have bought two non restricted semis and had them both banned prior to shipping so.... $3k for a Tavor that I may not get to shoot before it gets added to the current $12k worth of guns I can't shoot seems like a poor decision. I looked at what is reasonably priced and not out of stock for the next few years and went bolt gun because I will be shooting in the next few weeks. I will continue to run matches, and I will continue to invite the military to compete at my matches because I want to continue to have them attend the sporting events the government says they are unsuitable for. The only changes to our rules I am considering is allowing bipods and disallowing starting in position.

We will be trying out few variations of courses of fire here on the Island. I don't think there is the need to be identical every where. Traveling to a bunch of countries showed me variation is good and you can shoot or you can't. If I had trenches I would have guys shooting from trenches. I have a range we can't do run downs on so we don't, we shoot movers. Adapt and overcome. I like the classic 12 but the CAFSAC matches are also a blast and a challenge.

Quoted for truth. Either you can shoot or you can’t. If a different tool is provided, does the mechanic quit? The right tool helps, but it doesn’t make the shooter. Look what Jerry M does with a revolver.

Why are we talking about bolt guns when there is a reasonable range of choices in semi auto? People were shooting WK180 at ORA before the OIC.

SR can definitely continue with semi auto - WK180 and WS MCR are reasonable priced rifles. There are also Bushmaster ACR and many many X95/TAVOR in circulation, as well as FN FNAR. HK SL8 is not exactly rare in Canada either. There also a few semi like K&M, KelTech RBD, robarm M96, FN 2000.....

I know people are sad their match grade ARs ( or thumb up their noses at anything not AR or upgradable to match grade) are no go at least for now before the legal actions are concluded, but I do not think it is the right move to uphold the tradition of practicing/training what the "militia" do for marksmanship, nor does it contribute to the argument to the court and government that semi auto is necessary for sporting. We will be falling into the reverse of the fallacy the OIC committed, by that these rifles have no sporting and hunting use, and in the next paragraph acknowledging the natives do use these rifle for hunting.

We need to talk the talk, and then walk the walk when it comes to using semi auto in SVC. We have two legals actions with both SVC shooters from the BC and ON as both applicants and makers of affidavit - it is not productive to do the opposite while they argue for us that AR15 and semi auto are essential to conduct SVC. We should stick with what we are doing with semi auto until 2 years from now if they actually confiscate our AR15s.

My opinion is that the Rifle associations and the match directors should not break rank with the legal actions. We must not act like we are defeated before we are defeated either, this is the start of the break down of the cohesion of us as a group. We must have a united front. SVC is to be conducted with semi auto because semi auto is essential to SVC. This is the sporting purpose of semi.

I certainly get the points you're making with respect to both the continued use of semi autos to show their validity, as well as the availability of semis that are still good to go.

Gunnerlove touched on one concern in regards to the worry of buying something else now, and having it banned via FRT change next week.

The other concern is cost. The list you mentioned includes some pretty high dollar items. For some folks, those are prohibitively expensive, whereas some of the bolt gun options are relatively inexpensive. The Ruger American, for example, is easy on the wallet, and can make use of AR mags and common optic mounts. I believe making matches accessible to both semi and bolt options is the way forward. This doesn't even need to be big sweeping change. It was mentioned before that allowing bolt gun shooters to start in position for snap matches etc. is an easy fix. If I recall that was one of the few concessions offered to our Ranger shooters at most SR events.

I actually look forward to more bolt actions in service rifle. I have no problem competing with whatever firearm I need to, but it sure is satisfying using a good bolt action under duress to lay down good shots.

I'm sure we'll overcome whatever challenges we face.

to add re any inability to use as a result of the OIC. we should all prepare an affidavit stating how your rifle used in sport was banned, That way the Orgs can show the judge a 2 ft tall pile of proof. The reason I say it is, my friend was part of the VW scandal in Canada , the owners appointed a few owners to show in court as their "reps" as it were. and what did the judge say at the end? I dont see it as a big issue as only a few bothered to show in court, despite the fact we are working or live hrs or Provinces away.. Owners were in disbelief,, but to draw from that, Yeah, have thousands of docs to prove the claims, its a one time crack we get to stop it folks..

If in an unfavorable situation, you have at least three options. You can try:

1) Work at doing what it takes to improve it to your liking.

2) Live with the way things are.

Or

3) Get out of said situation.

My boss told me this. I miss working there!

In this situation 1 & 2 are not mutually exclusive. We need to find a way to keep shooting while working to repeal the ban. People generally join the shooting sports because they want to shoot, not attach themselves to a new political cause.

The best way to stop the ban is to vote Conservative in the next election and convince your neighbour to do the same thing. Next best is the Courts. Last would be civil disobedience. Just ignore the ban and any notices of seizure you might get from the RCMP. When asked where your gun(s) are simply ask to speak to your lawyer and say nothing more.

I don't see the RCMP locking up a mother of four or a husband and sole income provider for a family over a useless firearms ban. Mind you, he did take money from a children's charity....."Welcome to the Crowbar Hotel" LOL

When they are standing on your doorstep with a search warrant, better have your lawyer on speed dial.

Son they, the RCMP, won't be. The OIC won't stay because the next elected government is going to toss it. The RCMP know it and so does the village idiot in charge right now. There are thousands of SKS rifles that have never been registered when the Long Gun Registry existed. All it is right now is political theatre. What we have to do is get the Conservatives elected and get the message through to the Liberals gun legislation is not a winning ticket. Hell even CBC didn't wet their pants over the ban.

FYI guys were hunting golfers in Saskatchewan with their AR's long before Trudeau got out of High School and they will be doing so this summer and beyond.

I know that not everyone enjoys golf, but isn't hunting golfers with AR-15s a bit harsh?

I like to start them off with a few rounds of 22LR, then on to the bigger stuff;)

Golf - I lived on a course for 4 years and never even thought about playing once.
