I had a heated discussion!

I guess all hunters in SW Ontario are just shooters, not a hunter around until you hit Barrie or so! Farmland all around, and Crown or public land so crowded there is probably 50 pounds of Lead in the air at any given moment. Those are the real hunters, on about 5000 acres total in SW Ontario. So I only become a hunter when I head North, using my semi of course. :nest:

Shooter. Hunter. Shooter. Hunter. Two hats. What about when I bow hunt, is that considered hunting, or am I just an archer, waiting for the slaughter:runaway:

My part of MB is farms with lots of bush. Well, many farmers are doing their best to get rid of prime deer bush though.. The opening day of rifle season, the deer are stupid. They really are. A few days in, and they start to figure out what's goin on, and then it can get pretty tough. Educated deer have a lot of bewildering tricks, regardless if they have been around equipment all fall.
I'm not really concerned with numbers, it's more of the spending time with my family and friends. A deer that's ate nothing but peas all fall just can't be beat. A deer that's ate nothing but flax however, is rather disappointing.
Bottom line, as long as you do it (as long as it's legal and moral) all the more power to you, whether it's sitting in a tree stand and waiting all day or pushing bush. Get out there and hunt, and take a kid with you.

I was brought into hunting by "farm hunting" but the way I do it is no different than "bush hunting". I won't "push the bush" or have a half dozen people do a drive for me. I let the game meander as it would naturally anyway and hope to catch wherever I can. I don't care what anyone says, the Deer at home are not domesticated, they're wilder than a banshee and take off at the slightest noise or movement. Unless they are in the rut and you are lucky enough to be in the right spot at the right time, there are no "gimmies" where I hunt.

.......... what ever you like best.

I've made up my own words to the story, I like it much better.

" I had a discussion with a fellow hunter and firearm enthusiast about the up coming big game season. He and his fellow hunting companions used a different technique for hunting and enjoying nature with like minded individuals then I'm used to. After swapping stories of good times and great memories with our each respective styles of choice, we each invited the other to "see how the other half" spends a day on the hunt. I'm looking forward to meeting new people who are just as enthusiastic about this sport as I am, and am excited to have a different experience hunting this year!"

- My reply:

Wow, great story! Hope you have tons of fun! Make sure you get your new acquaintances to sign up on CGN and post some pics of the respective hunts!

Good Luck out there!

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the diference in taste between bush and farm deer. I go two deer last year, one way back in the bush and one around home in semi-farming country. The bush deer tasted like balsam fir while the one around the farm country tasted better IMO.

X 10 on not caring how or where others hunt, I just wish they didn't hunt in my secret spots
