I had to cringe watching this.

What a waste. Being a bit of a clairvoyant here I predict that very shortly someone will come along and tell us all how we shouldn't care because its one of millions of Mosin Nagants. Go buy a Savage Axis or a Maverick Shotgun and hack it up! I realize both of those are 2-3 times the value of a generic war dated Mosin, but what are you afraid of if you're such an expert at improving an engineered design?

The grinding off the rear sight is just plain stupid.
All he had do do is Google a few seconds to realize that
some of those pins are actually soldered in.
Just heat it up and they are easy to punch out.

C'mon you guys, quit sniveling. Rusty, pitted bore, no replacement barrels to be had and a very common rifle.

If everyone keeps these things as issued, they will never increase in value.

The guy is admittedly a bit of a butcher but he's working on the cheap with what he has to hand. He's taking a working rifle and making it more appropriate to his needs/desires.

There is nothing to distinguish that old girl from a couple of hundred thousand, maybe more, buried in basements/closets/safes etc.

If everyone had kept their No1 and No4 Lee Enfields in as issued condition, they would be worth about what the Mosins are selling for now.

At least that particular rifle has a chance of still being useful. Lots of bubbas work in the past, sent his efforts to the scrap bin.

I would not mind, if I could buy No1 and No4 Lee Enfields for the same price as Mosins.
But, you are right it is his gun, he can do whatever he wants whit it.
