Went to Buffalo, NY today and of course had to stop at Buffalo gun center for a drool. Handled a few toys, but after I spoke my first sentence I got "are you from Canada or something?" aparently I dont say 'about' right, last time I was there my 'Z' gave me away lol.
They have soooo many nice toys I'll never get to experience because because of our laws it's downright depressing. :( I think if I ever move down there all I'd be buying are compacts!

All those nice 12.6s they have down south always make me cry because I know I'll never get them. If I could, I'd pick up a Colt Defender and Sig P238 in a heartbeat.

Yes, but we can have ARs with 14.5", 11.5" and shorter barrels and the Yanks can't. Sometimes the grass only looks greener on the other side.

New York has worse gun laws than we do, imo, as I was pointing out in my thread about the most politically correct gun ever. http://www.lcav.org/states/newyork.asp

Try getting a permit to own a handgun in NY (takes months), and if you get one try getting it varied so you can own another one. Here you just get a PAL and you can own as many handguns as you want, unless they're 12(6). NY still has a ten round mag limit, ballistic testing law, lock law, etc. The only real advantage they have over us is no barrel limit or calibre prohibition.

Their long gun laws are arguably better, but they still have an "assault weapon" ban, it's just outside of NYC you don't need a licence to own a long gun.

That's all an American needs to own an SBR.

Assuming you live in a State where they're legal, which in New York they aren't. Definitely easier to own short barrelled shotguns and rifles in Canada than in the US.

My experience of living in the US is that even if you live in a State where NFA weapons are legal, you've still got to get the local CLEO to sign the Form 4, and they usually won't in urban areas. Either that or you have to set up a corporation, which is a pain.

How am I generalizing? I said specifically that New York gun laws suck. It is also easier to own an SBR or SBS in Canada than anywhere in the US, this is a fact. I speak from personal experience.

Cybershooters - I wasn't referring to your comments. Just that there are so many who see the US as the promised land when it comes to firearms law.

The U.S. Seems to be a fantastic place with their wider availability of Handguns and great prices until you realize that with the state of their economy most Americans can't afford pistols at any price these days, or the ammo for the ones they already have.

Setting up a corporation is easy and relatively fast. I have a friend in Ohio who haad his done in less than a week through an attorney who specializes in that sort of thing and the price wasn't exhorbitant.

If you thing NY is bad look at Massachusetts...

I do remember when I was in Watertown, NY and went to Gander Mountain and saw all those nice subcompacts and snub nosed revolvers - the only thing I could think was if I'm green with envy at one of the worst states for gun laws, I wonder what a good state is like?

Then I went to New Hampshire and Vermont.... It was glorious.

Yea try New York City and its 5 boroughs. You cannot own any "assault weapons" and that includes the Beretta CX4 Storm. You're limited to get 1 permit which takes 6 months wait for 1 gun purchase ONLY. If you want to buy 2 guns you have to wait 12 months! I was quite stunned when I went to the range in Manhattan and they told me the story. I think there's also a limit with ammo purchase as well.

Cali is just as bad if not worse.

Some things about firearms in the US are definitely less restrictive than in Canada, but some other things are more restrictive. What I, personally, miss the most about the US, is the ability for a licensed collector to buy firearms approved by ATFE as "curios and relics" directly from a private citizen. The collector still has to keep records much like those kept by FFLs, but at least it allows for collectors and collections, not something done in Canada. Oh, yes, and I miss my PPK with Gemtech suppressor, but that's another issue.

That is complete bs and gun sales go up during hard times.

Some states are better than others. MA, CA and NY can be worse than Canada. Then again, it seems the east coast of Canada has horrific laws, even compared to the Canadian west. Thank God I live in BC.
Lot of hard work ahead of us, ladies and gentlemen; Rome wasn't dismantled overnight. LGR is on its way out, then we go after other unjust and oppressive, useless and wasteful laws.
