I Hate Handguns! Range Report. NEW PICS. Now I'll shut up.

Slightly off topic but what do you think of the Sig P220 Match?
How does the P225 compare to the P226?
Thanks for any info.

I don't have any expieriance with the 220 match

and BTW prproulx I really really do hope you enjoy your 225 (I don't want to pee in anyone gravey.)
they are a nice pistol (after all it is a Sig) BUT they are not what I would choose,I prefer a double mag with an extra inch of barrel, for a combat handgun. with that
you are going to find if you shoot alot. in one setting that your going to get alot of stoppages and will have to "slap and rack" your slide.
cheers

what Browning do you have ?

Here's some pics of my new 9mm Combat Commander. It says in my Colt book that it was made in 1975. Is this all original? Shouldn't it say SERIES 70 on the slide?

Actually it is a woman's gun. For the women in the military that is. We were going to get, or so they say the P228 or 29, the double stack version anyway, but it was found that it was too big for the fairer ###. I say fairer with a grain of salt. Some of the ladies make Rosie ODonnell look like a lightweight:eek:

I have decided to make my Commander into a shooter rather than a safe queen. To this end I got Jason at Gunco to install some new sights for my middle-aged-man eyes. He did a great job with the front sight. I have had a few messy stake jobs.
I don't think it "uglied" it up too much. I am waiting for a flat mainspring housing form Brownells and some genuine Colt wraparound grips to arrive.
I am also waiting for my ATT renewal that's why there's no range report yet.

:D:D:D I will pass your message to the boys and girls in our navy!

I'm sure the boarding parties will be duly humbled, naaaaaaaah.

...and who makes the sights on your commander, good visibility and looks like they attach without making enormous cuts in the slide - very nice.

I may be wrong, but I believe your Commander is a pre - series 70

I got these fron Numrich e-parts. They were dirt cheap and the gunsmith said the front sight had a longer post and was more solid than the original. The back sight slid in the existing dovetail.

I finally took my two new pistols out. As expected, the Sig worked flawlessly and was so pleasant to shoot 147 SXT's. I think that would be a good defence round. It was very accurate and very little recoil. Yawwwnnn! So reliable!

I expected the Colt to be finicky. So when I shot three mags of 115gr Winchester Ball and there was NO FTF. FTE's I was elated.

However, everything with a flat or HP yielded failure to lock open on last shot (Colt Mag) and a live-round stovepipe (Mec-Gar mags)

When the Colt mag wouldn't lock open, It was hard to get the mag out. The stovepipes in the Mec-Gar mags may have been due to bullet shape or follower.

Any insight on these two problems?

I now have a flat MS housing and wrapparound Colt grips but the dogs took the camera to the cottage so no pics for now.

I was pleasantly suprised to see it feed and fire Winchester Silvertips perfectly.

Jason did a great job on my sights too. First he thought he would have to solder the front site on as he didn't have the proper staking tool. I don't know how he decided to do it, but he crimped the front post perfectly.
