I have a 50cal CVA wolf in line ML rifle.

Seems to me its a tad expensive to practice with the mainline bullets. So I was wondering if anyone is casting bullets to use in their inline guns. If so what model mold are you using and how are the results?

I guess the minne style of bullet would be the one to try but like I wrote I' guessing.
 
The twist rate in a modern ILML is going to be much faster than most older style muzzle loaders. Some conicals may work but I've heard about the pressure of heavy loads in modern rifles blowing the skirts off as the bullet leaves the muzzle. Often limits you to lighter loads.

Have you looked into conventional sabots? I bought a bag of 100 sabots for $15 or something and use either jacketed pistol bullets or cast pistol bullets. For a .50 they are available for .44 (.430") and .45 (.452") bullets. I use sabots for .430" in my sidelock percussion cap since I reload .44 mag so have jacketed and cast bullets around.

Hornady makes hollow point conicals from soft lead. I picked up a couple boxes to try them out and any store that deals in Hornady should be able to order them in from their supplier.

I've chatted with a couple guys who use Lee R.E.A.L (rifling engraved at loading or something?) bullets in modern ILML's. They are a solid bullet with gradually smaller grooves that are supposed to make it easier to load as you are engraving the rifling into the bullet when you start it in the muzzle. They appears very stiff to load and they were cast with near pure lead. If they were cast in something harder they would be nearly impossible to load.
 
I have used LEE REAL bullets in a rem700ml with 100gr charges with excellent results also as stated using a 44 cal/45cal bullet in a sabbot would yeild identical results as the expensive copper alternatives
 
I dont have my REAL bullet molds any more but if you want to try the 44 cal in a sabbot idea and don't want to buy molds I can ship you some 310gr from a lee mold for sabbot use
Ill also look around and see if I have some REAL bullets kicking around but I don't think so.
