I have a dream...A Norinco AR-10...

Wait a second... this AR10 is NR?

How is that possible? I thought the RCMP just put everything AR in the same bag as Restricted?

Don't get me wrong, sign me the #### up for one and ill take out the credit card!

Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Go directly back to the start of the thread and read over. ;)

Apparently the 'original' AR10 is NR. News to me too. The ones currently being produced are AR15 copies, not the original Armalite model. CanAm is suggesting it would be possible if they could get their grubby little paws on a proper set of original blueprints.

I just had an idea, if anyone is a member of ar15.com... maybe ask on their forums... lots of people there (I often get google results from there searching).. maybe someone can get their hands on the blueprints?

tell them Canada sent you.

Came across that site while attempting panicky Google-fu when I first tripped across this thread. Seems like they were looking for it too. At least in the thread I fell into.

If it's a milspec AR platform, it will be restricted.
They'd have to reinvent the wheel to give us a NR, AR style rifle.
After the T97 I had, I'd be afraid to purchase whatever Norinco dreams up.

If the original plans are used, standard AR uppers will not be interchangeable. It would be the same non-restricted AR 10 or AR 180b "long gun" as we have now, just made by children and more available. :dancingbanana:

The original AR10 preceded the AR15. The AR15 is a variant (evolution) of the original AR10, not visa versa.

The original AR10 predates the AR15, and therefore cannot be classified as a variant. This is the same principe as the Sig 540 vs the 550. The AR 10 is a distinct design from the AR180.

An original AR 10 that was manufactured as a semi (virtually all were select fire), or a repro based on the original design should be non restricted.

The sad thing is even if it happens , if they'd start on it today we would probably not see one for 2-3 years at least.

Could Norinco make the lower exactly the same as the original AR10, but make the upper to be similar to existing 308 AR having features such as top rail, standard barrel nut threads so we can put our own rail on it?

To be honest, if most are interchangable(except upper and lower attachment) I'm only interested in the receivers, and have the rest of the parts installed being "high end". I didn't mind paying $3k for a "American" NR AR from the start and I think some of us may agree.

I wonder what the classification guys will think about this lol
