I have a proposition

This is a great thread Doug. Don't know how I missed it until now. I know you have quite a collection of guns, nice to see them getting used like that. I wish to hell I had more time to dedicate to getting out and putting some lead down range. I did get a chance to take a half dozen of mine out to the back 40 two weeks ago with a buddy of mine, but that was the first time this year. And, I could tell. I was shooting mostly bigger calibers in the old Winchesters; 45-70, 45-90, 348. Next time might try to take out something a bit lighter. Did get to try my new 1886 45-70 extra lightweight with 20" barrel. I was surprised how well it shot, though high of course.
Wish I had a range like that in my back yard!
Matt

We had an interesting experience with my 22-284 and 80 gn SMK at about 3750 fps from my 1-8 twist barrel they were tuning into mist about 30 mtrs downrange. Most disconcerting as this is the bullet I wanted to use on baboons at about 4000 fps. Anyone else had these experiences?
I will post little anecdotes from our shooting fiasco but I'm a very slow and poor typist so this is quite painfull for me, and a long detailed dissertation is out of the question.

This is an interesting topic.
Not doubting your word, but how do/did you prove this?
I have my departed dad's old weathered christen Schultz $ Laren model
65DL in the 308 NM and I had an urge to make a yote shooter out of it.
I was thinking of 100 grn or so bullets and was told not to use such a
light bullet.
Reason was as you mentioned on your first line.
This has always had me wondering the jist of it.
No bullet holes in the target or just a spatter?

Ohh, thanks for the Hot Wheels photo.......:D

Now you must appreciate I wasn't there but another shooter was watching and said he could see a gray cloud about 30 mtrs out and no holes in the target, unless it was shooting so well that they were all going through the same hole, not likely. The first one hit the target but the following 4 did not.
Oh, and you're more than welcome for the hot wheels review. I will try and get some photos of the plane as well, back40sniper took some maybe he will post some if not I'm going flying tomorrow I will take some and post.

We shooters here in Whitehorse are truly blessed to have such a great facility but we have worked hard for it and it is still evolving. It has made some good shooters even better to be able to practice out at the extended ranges we have.
