I have found it....the lemi shine of the north!

FYI, a spoon of citric acid + any dish soap will work.
I think vinegar or acetic acid could work too, but they smell.

I use citric acid and dish soap as well. Very cheap. Careful with vinegar in an Ultrasonic machine - it will mess with the stainless tanks in a bad way

How are u guys using this?? I use a Frankford shaker / vibratory with media to tumble my brass.... works well it seems but I'd like to know other ways!

In SS wet tumbler with dish soap, will not work in a dry media vibratory tumbler.

Does this work better then dry tumbling?

I use both methods for various reasons but for pistol i do the Wet tumbling with the stainless steel pins. Add a dash of Lemon Shine to a squirt of Dawn Dish Detergent with hot water and tumble for about an hour (i find thats enough to clean, but most do it for 2-4 hrs) When dry tumbling your really just shining the outside and a little of the inside but wet tumbling makes the inside look new.

I do wet tumbling with a Thumler's Model B and use stainless steel pins and it works great. I will attach a recipe I picked up from a guy here on CGN many years ago and will share...

Thumler's Model B Tumbler Recipe

A popular brass cleaning recipe for this tumbler is:

1. Add 5 lbs (2.27 kg) of SS media into the drum.

2. Next fill with 1 gallon (3.78 ltr) of cold water. (One gal = 8 lbs / 3.63 kg)
(About an inch from the top of the tumbler)

3. Add your brass into the drum (2 lbs / 907 g of brass)

4. Add dish soap 1 to 2 tbs of Dawn, Ivory or Joy dishwater soap
(If no soap bubbles in water after tumble you need more soap)

5. Add 1/4 tsp. of LemiShine. This is the key to the shine (Not too much)
For the full tumbler use about a 9mm case full of Lemishine.
Always use cold water, as hot water promotes darkening of the brass.

6. Tumble 3-4 hours with the Model B High Speed Thumler’s Tumbler.

7. Pour out as much water as you can without losing any brass or pins.

8. Fill the drum with water and separate brass by hand or use a media strainer.

9. Rinse your brass off really good with some warm water.
Not getting a good rinse can leave water spots.

10. Dump brass onto a towel and let dry
Check brass for stuck pins.

11. Store your SS media either wet or dry in the drum.

How much brass to add?
After the water and media is in the tumbler, you have about two pounds left for brass. This is for the 15 pound capacity of the tumbler.
2 Lbs of Brass Equals “about” (for brass not listed below use the caliber close to the same size and adjust quantity accordingly)

300 Ultra Mag 50-75
300 Mag 60-75
30-06 70-100
7mm Rem Mag 60- 80
7wsm 60-75
.308 80-120 pieces
.223 150-180 pieces
.45 160-180 pieces
.40 210-220 pieces
9mm-230 pieces
50 BMG 25-40 pieces
.243 90-125

5. Add 1/4 tsp. of LemiShine. This is the key to the shine (Not too much)
For the full tumbler use about a 9mm case full of Lemishine.
Always use cold water, as hot water promotes darkening of the brass.

I didnt know this? I will go cold from now on, thanks!

^ considerable waste of capacity

For 9 mm:
1.5 litre Nalgene PE bottle
Fill to 3/4 with brass (quickly hose the brass in a sieve first, to get rid of range dirt and other crap)
Add 0.4-0.5 kg stainless pins
0.5 teaspoon citric acid, 1 tablespoon of dish soap
Fill with hot water, leaving ~3 cm of air below the lid (hot water works better on dirt)
Place the bottle on rollers, run for 1 hour (homemade tumbler parts were $15 total from princess auto, plus random scrap from the parts box)
Rinse the brass in a sieve

I use hot softened water, small amount if pins, a squirt of TIDE laundry detergent and a pinch of lemishine.
One hour in the FA tumbler, brass comes out shinier than new, never any discoloration.

Odd, I think they may be other factors at play here as I exclusively use hot water. I have 3 FA wet tumblers and have processed god only knows (well over 200,000) pieces of brass in hot water and have never had dull brass. All of my brass comes out incredibly bright.

I put the 5lbs of pins in, add brass until its about 3 inches from the top, fill with hot water, add 1 45 acp case of lemishine and a healthy squirt of blue dawn dish soap. Tumble for 3 hours.

Good tip on avoiding hot water in the tumbler. I will try cold next time and see if there's a difference. My brass always seemed a little darker than others.
