I have two questions

Savage Reviews

Well here they are as requested. The following links will give you more information than you ever wanted to know about Savage rifles. A few articles were even plagiarized by members in previous posts. The Savage fans will all go out and buy one with a Tasco scope on it because that is what they like. The Savage detractors will say, see, poor quality in certain areas. (i.e. stamped sheet metal ). It wasn't that hard to find this information. It just took a while to read it all. Sorry, but a quick few lines expressing one's opinion doesn't seem to cut it here so happy reading.

Bye the way Stonegoat. What are your thoughts so far regarding the feedback. Was any of it helpfull, or just very amusing? Don't be afraid.

This is my first post, so I'd like to say "hi". It seems this is a very informative place to visit. Anyway, I have two questions:

1) Anybody handle/shoot the "new" Winchester M70 Extreme Weather SS?? I'm thinking of one in 308. I already have 2 older M70s.

2) Does Savage make rifles that compare in quality to Winchester, Browning, Remington??

Thank for your input!

Stonegoat, welcome to the forum. I am no expert, just a shooter who enjoys quality. I have two 308's a savage heavy barrel and sako trg 22. the savage is a pig as far as fit and finish and looks compared to the sako, action is NOT smooth, stock (folding choate) nothing special and feels like a club. Having said that with the same ammo they shoot the same size groups at 200M 3/4 inch ( I aint no sharp shooter either). I would buy another savage anyday in fact I'd prefer a savage with a Nightforce scope than a sako with a tasco scope I think it would be more accurate. Savage makes guns that shoot where you point them. I won't be selling mine.

I appreciate the feedback. Somewhat helpful and definately amusing. I really just want a good all-weather sub-seven pound rifle chambered in either 308 or
7mm-08, mosty for sheep, goat and deer. I really liked the look of the Sako, but it just didn't shoulder well for me - same as the Brownings. I may hold-out until I have a few more pennies and get a custom rifle made. I have never even handled a Savage, and they have some nice looking rifles on their web site, so I thought I'd ask. As for the SS M70, definately a contender, as I love the three-way safety.
Anyway, thanks for all your responses -keep them coming.

I've never been a fan of Savage. Aesthetically speaking, the Model 70 is a Ferrari and the Savage; a Skoda by comparison. However the Savage will likely shoot circles around the Winny straight out of the box. Make that a Skoda "GT".

if you really want the ultimate that will shoulder well look at the sako finnlight in 308, worth every penny light accurate, can shoot competition and hunt, beautiful gun, I don't have one yet, waiting for a few funds to buy the sako 85 300 win mag in my local shop. Beats the rest hands down

Stonegoat i have a savage 114 american classic and in no way would i consider it inferior to any other brand, i would have to agree with others on the cheaper models as the finish is not as good on the synthetic stocked models. I was at the range last week and the guy next to me had 2 sako's and a tikka which were shooting groups of .78 inch to 1.22 inch, when i shot a .472 inch group with my savage he could not believe it asked to give the savage a try he shot a .523 group. If better accuracy and a nice finish to boot is inferior then give me a inferior gun anyday.;)
