:( I invented a new type of M14 gas plug :(

So this is my second norc m14. I'm not an expert, but I know my way around the rifle. Anyways, today I decided that I wanted to do a complete strip and give it a good clean. Tried to pull off the gas plug;wouldn't budge. Put the rifle in the vice, still no dice. I get to the point where I'm pushing the socket wrench with everything I've got, and still won't move. At this point I'm just stripping the bolt head. A few months ago I had tried to get it off, couldn't and just gave up then.

This time around, I wouldn't be defeated. I found a spare 3/8" socket, and welded it to the gas plug, and off she came. Have to remember to put a bit of grease on the threads next time.

Now I have a franken-integrated-socket-gas plug thing. It's ugly but it works... :(

On a serious not, does anybody happen to have a spare norinco gas plug kicking around? I thought I'd ask here first, then put up a WTB.

Ouch! That sucks. Did a quick search on line. Some US suppliers have them in the $45 range (Smith Enterprise Inc) though they won't be able to send it up here. Might want to check with IRG and see if they can get it, provided a local one doesn't show up.

Good luck!

I'm not sure they would on a norc gas system

Permacote nickel anti seize. That's what we used on turbine housing bolts back when I was a machinist. They get one heck of a lot hotter than a gas plug. Sometimes cherry red. You'll get it at any auto parts store or CT.

Ya, it was 100% my fault. I did a tear down after I got this rifle, and shot it once subsequently, but didn't remember to put anything on the threads.
