Hmm well I didn't even know there was a 178 amax learn somethin new every day haha, off to the store I go! See what I can dig up looks like they shot pretty damn well. Thanks for posting your results
 
np. here are some more if you wana see. first few are 178amax 42.5, last 175smk. 44.8 loaded long .015 off the lands.
scope is a sightron SIII fixed 10x42 MMD.

175 smk 44.8 - Distance 300 - This is a 3 shot group. 2 in bottom hole. you can see it if u look close. - .328 moa

hmm looks like you had good with the 178amaz with 42.5, and the 175smk with 44.8.

im goin to have to rethink my useing of the 168 hornaday match... tho it is what is most readily available here....
 
na man, you just need the 170's

I have a box of 168 amax, 168smk, and 168burgers all on my bench. I tried them all as well as 190smk. The 178 and 175 work best in the 5R. The 168's all worked but burgers were on top. The 190smk did not stabilize and was hitting the target sideways at 600y.
 
yeah i got a box of 168smk and 2 boxs of 175smk, the precission shooter at my local shop was saying both him and a buddy had the best luck in their 308s with the 168 honadys, so since thats all they really stocked i grabed a #### load of em. even tho every thing iv read said to go with the 175smk for the 5r, but i trust his advice over what i read on the internet. just 100 rnds to go befor i can try somthing else hahaha
 
well they work decent, will shoot 1/2 MOA, but i havnt gotten them better then that.. and by the looks of your loads the heavier rounds are grouping between .25 - .5 Moa so i wont know if its me, the riflle or the bullets thats limeting to 1/2 moa and no better then that.. with out trying somthing else :)

but this thread is starting to get to much of a subject soooooo
