I am very thankful to PoliceOrdnance.com for them offering LE and Mil discounts, but unfortunately they are sold out of many common Gen4 styles. They've been sold out of the G17 and G22 for a while, but they still had G20, G34, and G35.

I was initially going to go with the G34 because I thought 10mm ammo was impossible to find, but they just sold out of G34 at the same time I found a store near me that had a lot of 10mm left.

I just sent in my payment on the Gen4 G20 (I won't mention what I paid including tax and Trijicon HD night sights, but I am now super Glock loyal).

This will be the first pistol I've ever owned. I've shot the issued Browning 9mm a lot, but I am very excited to get into the world of 10mm.

If anyone has any tips for Glock ownership, I am a total newb and would appreciate any advice, thank you.

I owned a G20 over 15 yrs ago. Also had Trijicon sights (was my daily carry while on the job back then, yes I had the privilege of carrying my personal piece). You'll love how the 10mm handles in that particular pistol.

On another note, I'm looking for 10mm factory ammo and would like to know what brand of ammo, where and how much does it go for??

There isn't much to owning a Glock. Feed it regularly and wipe it down when it's dirty. I put a drop of oil on the frame rails, but other than that it doesn't need much attention. BTW, congrats on the new pistol. Let us know how you like the 10mm. It's on my list, albeit, pretty close to the bottom right now.
 
Glocks are super reliable and probably the easiest of pistols on the market to maintain . Congrats on the first purchase and possibly think about getting into reloading for yourself , save money in the long run.
 
G20 was my first handgun about 15 years ago. I can remember taking my black badge with it and just about blowing everyone off the range. With 10mm costing what it does I got into reloading which is not only cheaper but allows for you to take full advantage of the versatility of the 10mm cartridge. So naturally my advice is if you enjoy shooting and plan on having it as a hobby for the long term don't waste any time and go buy yourself a dillon 550, especially since you shoot a 10. I carried my g20 in the bush back when they still allowed a semi-auto for your atc gun and actually shot a grizzly with it but that's a whole other story (and the reason I switched to a 44mag for my bush gun).

Thank you very much for the tip, but I know nothing at all about self-reloading. I'll certainly research it, though, because obviously it will save money in the long run.
 
Mine jammed up on the first round. Over and over. Called glock. They said it's new. Load your mags. Leave them that way for a week. I did and the miss feeds stopped right away. Evil mag springs.

This is exactly why I shoot revolvers if I'm thinking of reloading. Picking up brass puts creases in my pants….jk.

Congrats on the Glock! I find mine (G17) boringly reliable. So easy to perform a detailed break-down/cleaning (usually after 500rnds) but I normally just give it a quick wipe until the next range visit. Still in great shape with minimal wear visible.

I think reloading is one of those things that's a little intimidating until you actually try it. Once you've researched it and actually tried it you'll find it's a pretty basic process. Obviously you need to take care and make sure you do it right but if you buy a Dillon it comes with a great manual and I believe a video as well. Once you start reloading it brings the cost of shooting down which means you'll shoot more, get better and have more fun. And yes even if you don't start reloading right off the get go, make sure you save all your 10mm brass because it's not easy to find.
 
If you are shooting factory 10mm you are missing the point of the cartridge. I also recommend picking up some conversion barrels. I can use 10mm, .40, .357sig, 9x25mm and also have parts to switch to .45 and .22lr. It's a very versatile platform.

If you shoot factory loads, the G20 barrel is fine. If - like me - you start reloading, get yourself a Lone Wolf barrel in 10mm. It's supported whereas the Glock stock barrel isn't . That means it can handle hot loads without threat of the Glock "kaboom". And it's also a match barrel with standard rifling, so more accurate and it can shoot cast if you feel like it. It also drops right in without any mods

I have a Gen4 G20 like you and in addition to a Lone Wolf 10mm barrel, I also bought at the same time a Lone Wolf .40 S&W barrel so I can shoot .40s out of the same gun and same mags. Also is supported and also drops right in. I now shoot .40s for plinking and warm 10mm loads I've developed for wilderness carry out of the same gun and mags.

Maintenance is a snap, like all Glocks. Much easier to maintain and work on than a BHP or a 1911, and will run dirty just fine.

I originally picked up several boxes of Remington UMC 10mm from LeBaron in Mtl when I first got the gun. Don't know if they have any left, but I suppose you can always call and ask.

This is what I was going to say too. I use factory ammo as a donor for brass. I bought a Lone Wolf .40 S&W barrel and will get a .357sig barrel as well. As far as shooting it goes, it`s easy to take down and simple to clean. Mine is not a gen 4, it`s a lot older. There isn`t any good full load 10mm ammo in Canada. There are some possible options coming apparently. We`ll see.
 
K Older gen glocks had very poorly supported chambers. This is now a myth that just keeps on being perpetrated by people who really don't know what they speak to. All newer generations of glocks have fully supported chambers and can take the hottest loads you can make. Yes a match grade lone wolf barrel will give you better performance and accuracy. This is a proven point, but the original barrel is fully supported. Get you facts straight.

Seems like they have everything aftermarket for your glock. My pistol isn't even here yet and I've already ordered steel sights and a few other doo-dads that I know I am going to want. I think they have your wolf barrels as well.
