Alot of territorial hunters/gangs there...Be friendly is the best advice I can give...

Well - I hunt in a camp in your area - its hunt camp world. Chances are your camp is bordered by other camps. You'll have to establish "rules of engagement" - many camps run hounds which will inevitably cross your line.
We hunt cooperatively with several neighboring camps, which increases the success and enjoyment.

If I were you I would be up there as soon and as often as you can. Meet the neighbours, find out who else hunts the area, make friends.

I would sign the hell out of the land too. Remember that a red dot means private property. You need to be up there for opening week and be patient with people. You will have guys coming on to your land until they figure out that you are there and it won't be worth their while coming over.

Did I mention make friends? Make friends!

We have a hunt camp in WMU 49 and hunt crown land in 53a. If you have never hunted big game before invite a friend who has or look for one on CGN. Gutting big game is not hard but like a fish (or anything else in life) it’s nice to have someone show you the ropes that have done it before.
As for tips and tricks something we did that made a difference is make a couple of food plots. It’s not all that hard to clear an area (now you have firewood to use or sell) and lay down some seed. I found the first year I cleared the land I did not need round up.
Get a game camera and see what is going on for game animals. The game cameras are addictive and a blast to use. The first time I shoot an animal that I saw during the year and had pictures of I was ecstatic.
As for neighbors I have not met any of the big land owners in the area only those who have cottages on the water. One of my hunting partners did one year and all they did was exchange pleasantries and moved on. No one in this area seems to hunt with dogs so we never had anyone’s dog run over to our area.
How much land did you get and is there a building on the property yet?

There is a cabin on the property. The land is 25 acres but my buddy owns the 400 acres adjacent to it and the guy I bought it from owns another hunt camp on the land on the other side. I have plenty of seasoned hunter friends who will show me the way. Thanks for the heads up on making friends. I am pretty flexible that way. All I care is that the land is respected and garbage is not left behind.

More than happy to fund my own way from Aus to Canada to hunt big game with you at your camp :)

Did I mention that I am available for hunting seacon and a pretty good cook too !

Hi WhelanLad not that I would not enjoy the company but if you’re interested in a hunt in Canada try somewhere else than the center of Ontario. Not much else besides deer and bear and other parts of Canada there are so many other game animals to go after. PM me if you would like to try a hunt in Ontario for ok deer. We get some nice deer but they are by no means the trophies you see in Kenora Ontario or the western provinces.
Bigbubba if you are really interested in a place to hunt you should make a post too see if anyone has any spots in their camp. Everyone likes someone who can cook, almost as much as someone who can clean up.

You may want to start caring about safety and legality of people you dont know marching across your property lines when you are hunting. You dont want them in your line of fire and you dont want to be in theirs.

Hunters are as a group probably the safest people around. But as in every group theres some idiots.

I've hunted the southern portion of WMU57 which is just north of Bancroft. Great area, lots of deer and moose...but lots of hunters as well. Be prepared for trespassers. Guys will give you some sob story about how they have hunted that land their entire life and always thought it was crown land blah blah blah. Even the crown land isn't safe...we've had guys post "no trespassing" signs on crown land to keep the weekend hunters out of their area.

Best bet is to get to know your neighboring camps. Hunt together, it increases your chances, and gives you more area to hunt. Also, it will have more sets of eyes guarding the area when you are not around.

we have a camp just outside of the bobcaygeon area...hope the break ins are not as bad in your new area..

I've hunted in 60 quite a bit at a buddies place. It's a nice area.
The deer luv wind fall apples. I've had more fun watching deer eat apples over the past few years.
There is a lot of hunters in that area. If your new property has not been regularly hunted by the previous owner I'm afraid you will have company strolling through when your out.
I would definetly get the red dots up soon on the property just to let the locals know
There is a new owner that may have intentions of hunting there.
Place a couple bales of straw with a archery target on it vizable from the road the locals will see it and guess your practicing.
Congrats on your purchase and enjoy its a great area.
