I just bought this... 1911 guys need your opinions. Good or bad.

Wait until you lose the safety lever plunger spring if you want to see a spring hit 'mach 1' and disappear into some dark recess of the shop, never to be seen again - until you buy a replacement or two .....

If you take the plunger spring and bend it in the middle so the spring is in a bit of a V shape it won't fly out when you remove the safety.

I would hate to ever use any firearm for self defence. I dont know if i could live with that.

Better to die by it ....? Nobody in their right mind wants to use a firearm for self defence. It's a 'last resort', life changing situation. Count on the firearm used to be confiscated (along with any other firearms you own) and expect to be vilified in court, made to look like a radical, 'Rambo-in-waiting' psychopath. The person you shot will be made out to be a 'choir boy', an innocent victim of your blood lust, sworn to by a lengthy list of witnesses.

Should you be exonerated, don't count on your guns being returned any time soon, the police having the right to withhold and destroy any weapon they deem to be a threat to them or the public. They just have to take a dislike to you for this to be the case. Check out the current Canadian Firearms Digest issue for comment on this very topic.

My wife told me how to do it ..... put the gun in a plastic bag or under a cloth. This traps the spring. Smart lady.

If you take the plunger spring and bend it in the middle so the spring is in a bit of a V shape it won't fly out when you remove the safety.

I have a number of different 1911s, including 2 Colts. A 1914 commercial and a stainless officer's Model. When handloading I found that the modern Colt seemed to have a large chamber that would feed and digest anything. The most fussy is a Star PD, which seems to have a tight chamber.

Once your pistol is broken in, it should be 100% reliable.

I used to own a "New Roll Mark" 1991. It was reliable and the trigger was pretty good despite the firing pin block. I just couldn't live with the sloppy fit and finish that seems to pretty typical of modern production Colts, so I sold it. Mine had the infamous "off-centre recoil spring channel" and a few other machining defects, not to mention loose-fitting parts (slide, trigger, grip safety, etc.) Turned me off the Colt koolaid in a hurry.

Got the gun last night, I will say this thing is tiny. It feels small in my hands, like its built for a woman or something. Ill try her out but i knew i should have went with a Glock 21. Its also a pain in the ass to strip down lol. Just takes some getting use too, Glocks are so easy.
