I recently acquired a Beretta Teknys Gold Sporting, 12 gauge 28" barrel, with the hopes of using it for skeet, sporting clays, and trap. Went through a couple different guns, one that wouldn't cycle 1 1/8 loads, one that wouldn't fire at all, so needless to say, i was a little excited aboout getting a quality shotgun that i wouldn't have to worry about, and might get me through one round of skeet :) Note, in order to understand why this is funny, i have never owned an autoloading shotgun before.

Took it out to the range the other day and put a few boxes through it to test it out, and it functions GREAT. Had some fun blasting a few birds thrown with a hand thrower, and taking it to the skeet range this week on league night. It was lookin a little dirty, though, so i figured i'd give it a good cleaning before taking it out in public :)

Stripped er all down, got out my toothbrush and some hoppes, and man, it looks great. Wait a minute, WTF?? There's something in the barrel... plastic wad fouling? Out comes the copper brush. nope, it's not going anywhere.....more hoppes, scrubscrubscrub....wow, that's a nice shiny bore. But that thing is still there!! It looks like two giant pits right where that..uhh...the takedown screw thingy is brazed onto the barrel! I'm writing berettan an email! This is the third gun in a row! $&*$%^*@$! Wait, i don't want to look like an idiot, i'd better find out what that thingy piece is called so i can tell them where this giant void in the barrel is. Out comes the manual....

f:P:

gas cylinder......

Hahaha Thanks for that post, I had a good chuckle over that.

At least you didn't get them on the phone and learn that way!

HAHAHA. sorry mwjones, I'm laughing with you, not at you. Just made my Thursday though. We've all done something like that.

I would have loved to be on another line for that one!

"uh, sir, those, uh, ahem, are the gas ports.

Here's a slight off topic hijack but about the same - got a cordless phone years ago - plugged it i n, wouldn;t work.
Asked a room FULL of electricians if they knew anything about them.
After the norma; " well, that's specialized chit, we're high voltage guys" one guy said he had lots of time on with AGT.

He asked a few questions then said " you DID plug in both cords, right?"
:eek::eek:f:P:
Well, now THAT is why my precision tool is a claw hammer!!!:D

We've all had moments like that. It's a WTF? followed by f:P:

BTW, keep those ports clean. They can get carbon build up leading to malfunctions.

i have actually done that same thing spent a good half hour in there, broke out a light and everything. Bore brushes, hoppes #9, the whole 9 yards. That's rich. Now i don't feel so bad. On another note I too picked up a second auto loader. Now im sticking to o/u's for a while

I tried a couple of over unders and either they didn't fit me or something else, just felt wierd to shoot. I've been shootign a mossberg 500 pump 12g since i was about 10 years old and the o/u guns just seem to line up wierd, seem really light, and don't swing right for me. Although...they do have that nice, shiny, uninterrupted by strange holes bore :)

On a good note, went out yesterday for skeet league, and i actually hit a couple of doubles, which made me happy. I only shot 2 birds better than my average, but it felt a lot nicer, and i wasn't flinching and/or looking at the gun to see if it fired/exploded/etc... No excuses now, it can only go uphill from here :)

Nice. I shared my horror story with my tekneys gold sporting a few years ago. When I took it apart for cleaning the rod on the back of the bolt which recoils down into the stock came off as it is only held on with a loose pin. There is a very slight difference between right side up and wrong side up with this piece as there is a slight curved tear drop shape on the end. That was hours of frustration right there.......

LMFAO! Jonsey?! How was it that you were expecting the gas system to work? This isn't a cheap recoil gun.....On second thought you better just send that gun over to me to ....uh...look at. You know make sure its safe. :D

Awesome. I did the same thing years ago with a cz858. It's a bit of an optical illusion, the marks can appear to be where you don't expect to see the port. Sometimes it doesn't appear to be a round hole either, just an oblong divit. (that's what she said...)

Inertia driven for me...the only holes I would prefer to see are the ones where those bullet thingys go in at one end and come out the other end. :)
