I just receive my first pistol... What product should I use to clean the gun?

What else do you use that's non-toxic? I'm thinking of going the same way. I bought some Butch's Bore Shine and as soon as I opened the plastic container which holds the bottle it started irritating the hell out of my eyes and throat.

Well mostly 99% U.S.P. Isopropyl alcohol, or 94% food grade Ethanol (Alcool) from Quebec. Frog Lube is food grade. Just look for anything that is food grade. If it is safe to clean food preparation surfaces, it is safe enough to eat, which means in small quantities it will not harm you. Anything certified non-toxic could work too. I think I used something all-natural one time and it wasn't horrible, but cleaning was debatable.

Certainly better than the chemicals in the primers you are using.

Seems rather hippy for this forum.

where are you getting fire clean? I'd like to try it

I bought it from Brownell's but there is a lot of sponsors who have it like Canadian tactical cowboy supplies and Manu others.

This stuff is amazing Seriously...... I just didn't test it in very cold temp like -30C, -35C. I'll test it this winter.

I guess you can't clean the bore with fire clean, right? it would end up being oily I guess?

G96 makes a grease now too from the looks of their webpage.
i wonder if it has that same great smell.....

hmmmm.... my M14 does need some grease..... guess i could order some and find out!

Listen to this guy...if you want to RUIN the plastic frame of your new GP100.

G96 is a pretty good cleaner. For lubrication, I would use lithium grease on the rails and other contact points.

Varsol is mineral spirits (aka petroleum distillate), which is a major component of most common gun cleaning solvents, including G96 Gun Treatment:

Varsol will work just fine.
