I'm new to non-restricted firearms and was trying to find a reference as to a limit on how many rounds a shotgun can hold. I have tried the search function here to no avail and also have been browsing the firearms act and I'm just sick of searching now. Does anyone know off by hand? I seem to remember reading something about a limit of 5 if it was a semi auto and can't remember a limit, if any, for pump action. Thanks a bunch!

maximum

I believe it is three rounds of it is a semi auto if you are hunting.
For pumps I believe there are no maximums for hunting.......pls double check on this.

For the range and target shooting, it is what the club allows.

Ontario:

Any hunting any shotgun : 3 total: 2 in mag one in pipe.
Semi-auto non hunting: 5 shots max. 4+1
Pump: Unlimited

The gentleman never stated that he was hunting.

If not hunting, 5 rounds (in the mag) plus one in the chamber for a semi as was mentioned by pc9. As many as it'll hold if anything else (pump, bolt etc..). My Valtro pump holds 7 in the mag.

Hunting In B.C. Its a total of three for all. Unless, you have no bird or buck shot on your possession and hunting with slugs, which you can have five.

Just shooting. An auto loader can have no more than five. For pumps, the sky is the limit. For single shot break opens the limit is one.;)
If you have a tactical shotgun in the bush with lights and s**t all over it...it will confuse the conservation officers and they will just ask you if its plugged.
