I know. Not another 1022 vs but I'm still undecided

I have experience with both 597 and 10/22 as does my shooting buddy, and the thing is they are the total opposite. My 597 VTR was dead reliable from day one and 10/22 was only trouble. I tried a few things with the 10/22 unsuccessfully and then got rid of it. My buddies 597 was trouble, but after the teething trouble was over, he still has it. His 10/22 has been awesome from day one. In my experience, the 597 feels more like a full size rifle than the 10/22. if you are keeping the rifle stock or just tinkering without replacing parts, the 597 is a better rifle. If you like playing with LEGO and accessorizing a rifle, then the 10/22 is what you need to buy.

while ill agree that 10/22's are like LEGO in that there is everything under the sun you can do to them.

but that being said you dont have to do anything to them.
but i will clarify that statement.
speaking as a fella who has a couple old ones and a couple new ones you dont have to do anything to the old ones.
the new ones feel like toys to me and the fit and finish isnt what the old ones are.

its unfortunate, but with Ruger growing so fast their QC has not kept up with their growth.

but for going out and blasting i grab my 1984 10/22 all the time over all my others.
and its stock and beat to hell, even has its original 10 shot mag in it!

I have a 1022 I bought in 1976 (from a Sears store believe it or not) and it has been the most reliable gun I have ever had. Never had a feeding issue, fires everything I feed it, and is a pleasure to carry around in the winter when I used to chase rabbits.
