I just unwrapped my new Benelli R-1 Comfortech in .270WSM... gonna be my new sweetheart... Oh yeah!
I have shot quite a few of these in various calibers and they all gave bolt action accuracy and performed flawlessly.
Chilly Willy and I just got access to 1500 acres of prime deer hunting in a rifle zone ( Corn fields as far as the eye can see! ) one an hour from my house.
I am waiting for some Q/D rings and then I am dropping my VXIII 4.5-15X50mm Long Range B&C reticle on it!

Semis are good... and Bartell wishes he had one.:p

Yeah T/B you know I could have bought a Kimber or a Sako 85 if I had wanted one;) ... but the fact is I need a light, accurate, low recoil, and completely reliable semi-auto for fast follow up shots. Doing animal control work requires me to use the best tools for the job! And yeah I will take it hunting for recreation too... why wouldn't I?

If you other jokers think they are so ugly then why would you want to see a pic....

I am getting used to the look... but they feel weird carrying them in one hand... I can't quite get used to it. I might have to use a front sling.

Congrats Big Red!

Glad you like it....Thats what makes the gun world go round!

Do you by chance drive a restored AMC Pacer? :D :D

Sorry, can't help myself....:D :D You could always put a bag over its head! :D

I've heard nothing but good things about the R1's. I hope it serves you well.

That said, the thing is damn ugly. IMO (...eye of the beholder, yadda.....)

I dunno, I kinda like it. I find the barrel a tad on and skinny side though. A shorter barrel, and something like a burris fast fire on the rail... Cool.

I'm sure it handles like a dream, shoots very well, and recoils quite moderately...but dude...that thing is pure ugly!
However, beauty is as beauty does....I'm sure it will be deadly!

A Benelli is far removed from Remington, it (the Benelli ) works.
I hope you can get used to it's looks.
Not for me though, I have to carry mine for many miles, and I don't use slings. That design was never meant for a carry rifle.

I actually like the look of the Synthetic, but not the wood stocked models. I'm sure we will be seeing more of these types of rifles in the future. Face it, bolt guns can't be popular forever. Single shots were the only rifle a hunter would use, even after the repeater came along. Then it was the lever action. Only real riflemen would use a lever, and never consider anything else, well into the era of the bolt action. Now were in the boltgun's time, and nobody wants a singleshot or lever anymore...Their not 'good enough' to hunt with. (I know, I know. All work great, but the bolt actions outsell all other actions second to none) Their are still afficando's of each style, but the bolt action reigns supreme. Technolodgy moves foward, not back. The autoloaders are becoming more reliable, lighter, more compact and more accurate. They will, in time replace the bolt action hunting rifle in the top spot. After that? Our guns will probably run on D-cell batteries. Congradulations on the new rifle. I hope she's a shooter.

Well the look sure isn't traditional.... built for function and comfort and it is made to carry in two hands not one!
I have had just as many people in the store say they love the look of the new Benelli and Browning rifles... they are both the same ergonomic design.
The ability to switch barrels is very cool and I can completely disassemble the rifle in minutes but it is unlikely I will need another caliber. Using the provided shim kit I adjusted the fit for my bad neck and mangled shoulder in about five minutes... not another hunting rifle made that I can adjust to fit me in this way.
When sighting in an R-1 in 30-06 from a bipod off the bench I was able to see my bullet strikes in the scope and I was able to get four aimed shots off in seconds. I found the recoil from the 300 Short Mag similar and I expect the .270WSM to be slightly lighter.
Another thing that sold me on this rifle is the trigger, the early R-1 rifles had a very heavy trigger about 5 pounds but this one breaks at 3.5 lbs. It has a slight take up but is slick for a semi, much better than both the Browning and the Remington semis. I may do some work to the trigger but I will shoot it quite a bit first, a light sensitive trigger can be detrimental when shooting a semi!
After shooting many of these already I don't expect to have any issues. But I will let you know.;)

I had to go to the Benelli website to find out what all the fuss is all about. That would definitely take some getting used to, for sure. Makes me long for a M70 Featherweight even more. :p

I'm not big on the looks of it right now either but it could be one of those things that grow on ya.
I remember back in 94 when Dodge came out with the new body style pickups and I thought they were terrible ugly. After several months,I thought they were the sharpest looking truck on the road.
Good luck with it Redd!
