I like my Benelli R-1 I don't care what Bartell says!

One hand carry is a must for much of my hunting.
Nope, not conviced. At least the :puke: Remington :puke: carries well in one hand. (and yes, I have used one :puke: :puke:)

Hey J/C I understand your single minded affinity for lever guns but I am compelled to qualify my post.
Firstly I never said the R-1 could not be carried in one hand... only that it felt weird. Other than feeling weird I can carry it quite comfortably in one hand. Although I don't carry it like I would carry a Lever Action.:puke:

My preferred one handed carry method for Semis and pumps is with the fore stock resting on my left forearm locked between my wrist on the receiver/trigger guard and the fore stock against my bicep with my left hand tight on the pistol grip. This has multiple points of contact and allows you to shield the firearm with your elbow and body. It allows for good muzzle control and it is very fast to grab the pistol grip with your right hand and slide your left out to the forestock to shoot.

Actually, I use thwe same grip on occasion, I developed that habit, whilst trying to control dogs on leads and carry a rifle at the same time.

Oh yes, about those dogs..

One of our guys just about got run over by a car a few years back. He was leading the dogs up the road to where he started in, when a deer jumped the road. The dogs dragged him off his feet before he got them stopped, and he was laying across the pavement when a car appeared.
He had the leads wrapped around his hands and could not let go.
(just as well, we don't like dogs dragging leads through the bush. )
The driver saved him, the dogs just wouldn't let him get up.
He had his rifle on a sling, and it went flying. Scratched all to hell. Doggers guns just get that way, so he wasn't too upset.

I have not tried various loads through the 270WSM version yet. The gas ports are very close to the chamber and only requires a 1/2 inch push to fully cycle the action, excess gas is just bled off. It does not affect the velocity at all.

I dunno about 4-5 inches...?
I installed the scope today... VXIII 4.5-14X40 B&C reticle... and loaded 80 rounds of 140gr a/b's and 50 rounds of 90 grain h/p's. I test fired with some 140's and the gun cycled no probs. These were Max loads and I just went through the mag quickly off hand... very fun to shoot and the recoil is modest.
Pulled it completely apart even the bolt, in less than 5 minutes. I used a bore guide which works great if you put the barrel in the vice upside down to cradle the guide in the top of the receiver. I wanted to make sure there was no copper before I start treating the barrel with moly bullets. This is my first Chryo barrel and I am curious how it will work with moly? If the weather is good tommorow I am gonna burn some powder and see what it will do.:)

Benelli R1 Question

I purchased the 300 win mag version of this gun, and right off the bat I have been having ejection problems. About every fourth round isn't ejected and the ones that are, don't go very far. I am thinking its a gas port issue and the local gunsmith thinks so well. He says they're adjustable, I have no idea, but it better get fixed before this fall. Does anyone know anything about this, about whether, they can be adjusted. Thanks,

Patrick

It is weird looking....almost futuristic....like Star Trek.

How many settings are there between stun and kill ???

Got a chuckle outta that :D

Great choice of cartridge for deer size game at longer ranges BR. I giggled at those R-1's too, but then I recalled packing my Beretta CX4 Storm (non-restricted) for calling coyotes a couple times  ...

I decided it would be in my best interest to STFU with the insults. Have fun with your new toy and post up some successful hunt pics with the Klingon Special.

Yes ....... it is a bit weird looking, but how much so compared to an AR rifle?

Not much, and I'd buy one or two of those in a heartbeat for hunting. I'd love to have an AR10 (.308) for chasing deer.

Personally I think the rifle is nice, and is in fact of an ergonomic design. Having handled one, I can tell you they are light as a feather...though I've never had a chance to fire one. Regarding the Chuck comment about how "euro-styling" is a fad...he's full of $h1t IMO. We've seen many successful futuristic stylings come about that have become popular. The CX4, SL8, RX4 and LRS2 for instance. Though some of them are not quite so ergonomic, time heals all wounds, revisions will work out in the wash. Regarding asthetics, yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but when I first saw this I thought it looked retarded to...but it grew on me, and now I think I know what my next rifle will be.

Where is the range report? Did I miss it? I read and article when they first came out and the rifle tested was hovering at around 3" at 100 yards, put me off buying one for sure. How about some real life results.
