I love hunting, I live for it actualy. I love all parts of the hunting, from bullet testing and load developent to scouting and butchering. And guess what else... I like shooting (and gasp)..KILLING game. Yes that is right boys and girls. I actualy like killing the food I eat. I enjoy it. I am not going to appologize for it either.

It seems lately that hunters act like they don't like the killing part. That is fine by me if they honestly don't like it, I can respect that. Unfortunatly it seems like many down play thier enjoyment of killing. Like it is somehow a bad thing to do now days. This does not sit well with me. I don't want the next generation of hunters to be endlessly appologizing for actualy killing something. Things live, we kill them, then we eat them so we can live.


So there, when it comes to hunting for food I like the killing part just as much as the rest of it. And I am not going to say sorry for it.

Does anyone else feel the same as me?
 
I don't enjoy or dislike the "killing", it's just a fact of life and a very small part of the sport, but I enjoy the sight of a proper, ethical one shot clean kill.
 
I haven't been hunting (done some fishing/fish cleaning), but I do know that I find animals are pretty tasty.

I think I'd enjoy the meat more than any other part. I'm not sure I'd enjoy the moment of the kill, it'd just be something necessary before I begin the process of turning the tasty critter into poop.
 
I like all the different steps involved in harvesting game. Making a clean kill is definatly enjoyable.

Hunting is a celebration of not having been "de-clawed" by the saran-wrap & microwave meal society! People are totally detached from their food source and, to me, its wrong.

I teach grade 7 ecology in Quebec. The kids , at first, see a contradiction ...an ecology teacher that hunts BUT, as the year goes by, They come to understand or at least respect. I figure that at 150 kids a year and 8 years of teaching, I'm turning out my fare share of pro-hunters :)
 
killing is the best part, thats why I hunt.sure there are other things about hutning that I like, but the kill is the biggest part. the day I stop getting excited when a big buck/bull steps infront of me; is the day I stop killing

no kidding!...I have never cleaned/dressed a large animal. (tons of birds,rabbits and fish though) But I can only imagine how much work it is. To answer the question at hand, I never really thought about it. The first squirell I shot shook me up a bit as a young guy. It doesn't bother me but I don't lust after it (I can't deny there is a certain thrill of the hunt happening). I am a big 'respect' person...This value was instilled in me long before I ever held a gun. The old man has made me eat or skin everything I have ever shot. As for fishing, I take the odd trout but its more catch and release these days as most of our local stocks are depleated...Again its a respect thing. I have to say (small rant) it really bothers me when non hunters comment on our supposed 'bood lust' as the strut around in leather goods munching a Turkey club sandwich!

There is something primative, I used to get really excited when I went out and killed anything, be it a rabbit, grouse, goose, duck but now I almost want to have a moment of silence and thank the animal. I am not going to say I like the killing but it is necessary and as long as the death is quick I am happy.
 
Killing is one essential part of Hunting!
There is no such thing as catch and release hunting or camera hunting...

I love hunting as a whole...
 
The kill is but one part of the act of hunting. The Spanish philosopher Jose Ortega y Gasset said it best in his work Meditations on Hunting, "one does not hunt to kill but kills in order to have hunted."
 
i enjoy killing but the best part is when you hear a bullet, that you handloaded make that unmistakable "thump" as it flattens whatever you may be hunting
 
I'm with claybuster.

I don't like the killing part.

I love the getting ready, preparing my guns, sighting in, hunting, the stalk and the shot, I don't mind the gutting , cleaning and I love the eating.

Sure, I feel a thrill and a satisfaction of a job well done when a deer drops in its tracks, or a duck cartwheels backwards in the air prior to dropping in the water.

But I prefer it when I've made a good clean kill and by the time I get to the animal it is already a carcass.

Those last few moments of gasping, trying to get back up again, choking on blood, eyes bugging out, chest heaving, moaning (yes, bears moan) are not fun and I am glad when that is over.

I don't feel so bad about killing ducks, but to see a wounded duck fly or swim away without getting recovered and finished off quickly is pretty tough to take.

I totally agree with your statement R of Ab. I live for it,Its always on my mind.And the same too when it comes to working up loads.The feeling you get when you kill your quarry with one of your handloads, its facinating:D
It does'nt bother me one bit when I pull the trigger or release an arrow on the target of opportunity;)
If only I did'nt have to work for a living:(

For most Hunters it is all about the "killing" let there be no doubt.:eek:

Don't get me wrong... I love the outdoors and I believe in conservation, and I take an active role in both.:cool:

But I believe Killing is a natural impulse for most men (and some women as well). I think that Hunting and Killing Game allows us to satisfy this urge and take an active role in our meat consumption.:)

Hunters who say that it is not "important" to kill are more than likely just unsucessful hunters.:redface:

Hunters who say they don't like killing... should just take up hiking or camping.:(
 
I also enjoy the kill! I get a great rush when I see them Geese drop from way up, the thump they make hitting the ground. :D Also when you hear a big flock of 400 geese coming it sure gets the heart pumping.

Hunting is the best thing in Life I think!!

I don't like the killing part at all. I'd be lying if I said that I don't get a huge rush out of a clean wing shot, but there's no thrill in wringing an injured bird's neck to finish it off - just mercy.

Having said that, though, I'm much more comfortable with someone who can admit they like killing their own game, than someone who is disgusted by the thought of killing and then buys meat at a grocery store. If you don't like killing, but you respect those who have the balls to look their food in the eye before taking it (as nature intends) - fine. If you can't kill your own food and you think people who hunt are sick - you're an F'n hypocrite.

No, I don't like the killing. That's why I honour the game by respecting the meat.
