I love my AR, but....

Gosh... 10LB ar? May as well have an MBR for that weight TVPP lol.

My current build sits at just shy of 6LB, bare bones frankengun build of various parts, but god is it nice to play with a properly tuned lightweight AR. Only serious lightweight parts on the gun are a DD lightweight 16" barrel, 13"KMR, and the V7 ejection port cover. More may be added to the lightweight budget in the future, but for now I am spending my dollars on my custom .338 build.

That said, a 1-4 optic would be added if I could take her to crown land, but as she is only a range baby, some KAC irons fit my purposes quite well.

Sounds like you need a better range sir! The 500 yd gongs see lots of use with the IUR.

But you're right: it's worth having a lightweight frankengun

Ok, I've put her on a diet. Just installed the MFT Minimalist stock and took off the rail covers and now she's down to 9 lbs even. I'll keep going with little upgrades here and there as funds allow and see how much I can slim her down. I'll probably end up building a new lightweight upper in the summer as I will have a lot more funds freed up by then.

2A Arms will sell you a BLR-16 for $2200 US, IRG will bring it across the line for you for a bit more. A 16 inch carbine that weighs 5 pounds bare. Put a Delta Point on it and your on the range around 6lbs. For $1400 they'll sell you the upper - 2 lbs 14oz complete with BCG.

Jeez that is pretty. Might be worth it just to save the headache of sourcing all the parts myself. Thanks!

I see you sold that boat anchor of a mount.
Good call.
Aero mount = 3oz
Leupold Mark AR 1-4: 9.4oz (only an ounce more than the p.e.p.r. !)

Just ordered the Aero mount. They were out of stock of the extended version so I had to get the regular. I'm going to keep the Burris MTAC for now because I really like it.

Just weighed mine at ~9.5lbs and that suprised me. It is not unweildy in the slightest and I am an average sized guy. In fact I still plan on adding another .3lbs. My sub2000 is somewhere around 5lbs if I recall, and is actually a bit too light feeling for range use...feels like a toy. If I was hauling gear across the desert, weight would be one of my top priorities, but....

I'm scared to weigh mine honestly. Enhanced IUR with Cadex folding grip and an Elcan OS 3.0x on top. She's putting on some weight.

my build:

16inch BCM lightweight barrel (.625 gas block)
midwest 10inch rail ( weights like 10 oz)
Trijicon MRO
ligthening cut BCG
spike adjustable gas block ( so you can run a stock 3oz buffer)

total weights 6lb 3 oz all in

So I've taken off the RVG and only have rail covers on the sides and bottom. Swapped the stock for the Minimalist. At the moment the scope is off as well while I wait for the Aero Ultralight mount to arrive. At the moment she weighs 7.2 lbs and once the scope and mount are back on I am expecting her to weigh in at 8.3 lbs. I think that's the best I can do with this setup due to the rails and barrel. I suppose I could always find a lighter scope like the Leupold that was suggested but at this point there are diminishing returns for the amount of money invested. I will just save up and look at a new lightweight build next summer.

weight is the reason why I am selling my specter dr right now.

I hear you... I had my DR on my HK, which is already a heavy rifle, and the combination was just WAY too heavy. Like the HK so much more now that I switched to a red dot on it. Thought about selling the DR, but ended up swapping it onto my MRR 11" instead which, as it's a light rifle to start with, is a lot nicer combination.

The Os3 is only about 14 ounces all in.
Not bad when you consider that the popular peice of crap bushnell ar 1-4 is 17 ounces without a mount.
Gotta like people that run that, plus a Pepr for a total of about 26 ounces. (About 1.7 pounds)

Thanks for the input folks. I've made a couple small changes and shaved 1.1 lbs off so she is down to 8.3 lbs now. Definitely enough to be noticeable. Sask Gun Works didn't have the extended version of the Aero Ultralight mount in stock when I ordered but as it turns out the standard worked out just fine for my application. I'm going to leave it as is for now and just start planning a new upper or, IF I can afford it, that complete Balios Lite rifle from 2A Armament.

Certainly looks nice! How do you like the AT15 mags?

Thanks. I love the AT15 mags, so much so that the Pmags never get taken to the range anymore. 10 round capacity and they have been 100% reliable. My only complaint is that apparently the base plates don't come off so cleaning isn't going to be quite as easy once I start dropping them in the dirt for 3-Gun next season.
