I finally got my new Tikka T3 Lite 7mm-08 from Wholesale ( I would have bought elsewhere but had a hard time finding one) Anyway, I sighted her in with a box of factory Federal Fusion 140gr, I was not terribly impressed, shot about 1.5" at 100yds, ( Tikka Guarantees sub MOA out of the box)
Tried a few handloads, 139gr Hornady BTSP, Varget powder, better results and hovering right around MOA but still not sub MOA ( It was breezy and I am no seasoned rifle shooter) Finally tried 43gr of varget, and shot a couple of nice half MOA groups, my first time shooting at 300yds and shot 1.5"
7mm-08, I believe will Impress me more and more as I get to learn the cartridge. My 50yd POI and 100 yd POI were within 1/8", so pretty flat IMO

I was looking at buying the same rifle/caliber but when I heard about the plastic clip I shyed away. After using it how is the clip? Do you feel it will hold up over time? I sure would like to buy that rifle still.

I have the same mag in my Tikka 22-250, no issues as of yet (and I have sat on it many times) I have put a few hundred rounds through my other mag. One guy on here once pointed out... the mags are built of a very durable plastic and unlike a metal mag, they will not bend and cause feeding problems.

Many have comented (including Chuck H.) about all of the plastic in the Tikkas as a way to reduce cost and yes it does reduce cost But really the plastics and alloys have mostly contributed to the weight reduction of the rifles, they even hollow out the bolt handle, this rifle is pounds lighter than many other rfiles I have owned, in fact I think it is easier to carry than my Win 94.

That plastic ... is not your average tupperware. It's nylon. A nylon mag is tougher than a steel one, and lighter.
The two things I found interesting about the Tikka are the floating aluminum recoil lug and the platic magwell, with the action screws being tighten against it. But they work nevertheless.
I sold mine because it didn't have iron sights..... I'll get a Battue soon...

Virtually indestructible, and feeds perfectly every time.

Yeah... Chuck Hawkes and all his believers should be put on the ignore list.... :owned:
The synthetic material used in the Tikka t-3 magazines is not nylon... it is copolymer glass fibre just like the stock. And it is stronger and more durable than most stamped metal magazines.

I worked in the pastic industry for a few years.... an ABS composite (of course it has biberglass inside) that we inject-molded looked and felt exactly like the one they use on Tikka. Both texture and apparent spectroscopy led me to believe is a nylon derivate...
But you Bigredd deal Tikkas more than me and you might be right.

I do not care for the plastic clipcompared to the Sako metal clip, but the Tikka T3 clip is very functional. No prblems with my T3's I have

Have A T3 In 7mm08 And 25-06 Both Have Seen Lots Of Feild Use. Accuracy Is Very Good In Both .
Other 1/2 Carries Hers Hunting All Day .it Has 1 Elk And 8 Deer.
She Has Bad Back And The Light Weight Makes It An Easy Carry.
The Clip She Says Doesn't Feel Cold Like The Steel Ones In My Other Rifles She Shoots In Winter.

My 7-08 made its first kill this weekend. My wife was on a bear hunt in NB in the vening, so during the day to kill some time we called coyotes with no luck, as we were leaving I spotted a groundhog standing at attention. Being from PEI (where we have no hogs, deer, bear etc.) I couldn't resist.
127M on the range finder.

A couple of the local boys were talking at our hunters shoot yesterday about the new t3's they have (one in 223 and one 222) they were complaining about an extra mag being $100+ and only holding ... 3 ? shots if I remember right? Maybe it was 4. Both rifles shot really really well and and I noticed well under MOA on the 200y bench part of the shoot.

Nice looking rifles.

Mike

bill c68: A 1.5" group from an off the shelf rifle (unmodified) using factory ammo is not bad buddy. The 7-08 is a nice capable caliber too that won't kick the crap out of you. Very well suited to the T3 in my opinion, I think the T3 is a wee bit light once you get into the .30 cals though. I know that most people, including myself have shown disgust over that cheapo "plastic" mag, or whatever it is, but about a week ago a friend of mine lost the mag out of his "tractor" gun. He latter found it buried into the tractor tire track, absolutely unharmed. Tweak some loads and you'll be impressed I'm sure. :)

Well I am now getting a 1.5" group at 300yd with handloads. I am happy with that, I'll see if I can tweak that a bit yet.:D

I am pretty sure Tikka makes a 6 round mag for the .223 cause it comes standard in the T3 Tac, andd yes the mags are almost indestructable, way tougher than the stamped metal ones you get with most weapons. Nice rifles but not crazy about the feel of the synth stock, like the stock on my 700 LTR much better.
